Old Hwy 40
I've been thinking of taking a ride along my old stomping grounds. I'm in SoCal now, but originally came from the Bay Area many years ago. I've been thinking of a ride starting in Crockett and taking old Hwy 40 south throught Rodeo, Pinole and maybe to San Pablo.
There's some pretty good climbing along this route and some nice views of the bay out of Crockett. It would be good to get the up-close look of this area that one gets from a bike.
But it seems to me that that old road didn't have much in the way of shoulders, and if the drivers there aren't used to bikes in the road it may be a little hazardous.
Anyone ever travel that route who could report on it?

Lesiz, don't know that part of 40 any more. The ride from Sacramento to Truckee is great however. We do that ride at least once a year. Let me know if you are interested in that part of 40 and I'll send you details.
