Visiting Napa next month...

It's my first time there and I am looking to rent a nice road bike and check out the scenery one morning. Yahoo search yielded mainly tour companies offering hybrids for winery tours. This isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

Can you guys give me any advice on a good shop that rents nice bikes and some possible 35-60 mile routes around the Napa area? Routes that start/finish at the shop would be convenient. I have a Garmin 705, so if there is a route out there that you could link me to that I can download...even better.

Thanks in advance.

For routes, I asked a similar question a while back:

Thanks, kster. I am actually staying at the Silverado myself, so this info is helpful. Wondering if there is a LBS close by to rent from...

Call Napa River Velo. Their website doesn't seem to work, but they do rentals, and I'm guessing they rent roadbikes, not just hybrids. They are in downtown Napa, pretty close to the Silverado.

I actually like the riding in Sonoma better than Napa (but I don't have too much experience with Napa). My recommendation, if you have a car, would be to drive to Healdsburg (in Sonoma County, but not too far) and go to Spoke Folk (https://www.spokefolk.com/rentals/index.asp). They rent road bikes (Specialized Roubaix) and can help you pick a route from among the great roads in that area. Here are a few route ideas to start your planning: https://www.winecountrybikes.com/Maps%20&%20Routes.htm

Just came from there.. well, Calistoga. Saw the Calistoga bike shop and just had to go in. Too bad it was on the last day.

But they rent Cervelo's and Felts. Had lots of fun drooling over the Cervelo's. When I go back, gotta rent from there. Nice guys too.

Calistoga Bike Shop is a great shop, but it's 30+ miles north of the Silverado Country Club.

Healdsburg is a nice place to start/finish a ride, but it's 50+ miles from Silverado.

Silerado trail to Sage canyon (r) at the top of Sage stay left at the Y and merge left onto Pope valley rd. This is a remote and lightly traveled rd. Continue on this until you reach Ink grade (nice 4 mile climb of medium diff.). At the top you can turn right onto White Cottage or go straight onto Deer Park rd....from there it is basically a screaming descent down to the Silverado trail then return going south on the trail. This will give right around 60 miles...it is a very nice route.
Napa River Velo will be able to give you what you need. If you want company while you are out here let me know, I know the roads well (I train on Napa and Sonoma County roads all the time).
Have fun,
Paul

Printing this out now... I am still planning my activities, but if I put this on the agenda for sure, I'll PM you...if you don't mind pulling an out of shape out of towner up a 4 mile climb of medium difficulty, that is...

Thanks for the help.

One other thing. I spoke to Brad at Sonoma Valley Cyclery https://www.sonomacyclery.com/ and he has Tarmac's available to rent, probably the best rental bike you will find around here. His shop is a 20 minute drive from where you are staying.
