Steve
I haven't done the RR, but I have done a TTT on the course a few times and done it on some training rides (makes a nice loop of about 105 miles when riding from SF up to the course, doing a loop and coming back).

Roads are narrow and I've heard it's real hard to move up in the race since centerline is strictly enforced.
The course is mostly flat with a few small hills. Smaller hills than Wente, no technical descents.

Interesting that there are no 35+ groups, so all us 35-44 year olds have to race with the young'uns.

It is a road i ride often, and the initial climb from Western to Spring hill is not overly steep but at the beginning of a ride it is long enough to make it hurt unless you have a GOOD warmup. From there on the rest of the road is CRAPPY pavement i would not use race wheels but training wheels ONLY!

Yeah, it does seem strange, but I think it's correct. What's most strange about this is that the 45+ is open to any category (Cat 1-5), so a Cat 5 who is 50 years old has a choice of racing 22 or 66 miles, while a 25 year old Cat 5 can only do a 22 mile race. Also, any first time racing women can do the Women's Cat 3/4 race, which is 44 miles.
