SJBikeParty?
So, I decided to break off my normal quickie loop (riding my fixed) and go visit Hyland Bicycles on Meridian here in San Jose. They were closed already, but I saw some fixie kids (brakeless, super narrow bars, etc.) go towards the back. Even though I don't style-out like the fixed gear crowd, I went back there to see what they were up to and hang out for a sec (boy did I stand out like a sore thumb decked out in my cycling gear, helmet, clipless pedals/shoes! But they were cool to me even though I was "roadie'd out").
They told me about something called SJBikeParty where "1000+ cyclists show up and ride". After some digging I found the website: https://www.sjbikeparty.org
Anybody see, hear, participate in this? I doubt I'd ever go to ride with the exception of gathering up my BMX buddies and hitting a trick session, but it looks crazy. At least they are trying to promote bicycle safety and traffic protocol.

It sounds like a total cluster#@*K.
Read the comments on that site. Drunks, fights, altercations with cops and pedestrians.
That's not the kind of ride I'm interested in being on.
Yikes.

I think this is the same ride that a few of my friends did probably 8-12 months ago. They dressed up at Michael Jackson I think for that ride. From what it seems, there weren't more than 100 people when they went.

It's quite fun and it happens once a month. There were a couple hundred riders on the previously mentioned Michael Jackson ride, and more than 1500 on the last ride. It's grown. There are definitely a few bad eggs who show up to the event, but most are pretty chill people out to enjoy a nice night ride through the city. The couch bike is a must-see.
