Newport, Oregon, Yaquina Lighthouse Century Rides

The Yaquina Wheels Bicycle Club invites riders of all levels to the 5th
annual Yaquina Lighthouse Century Rides to be held on Sunday, August 16,
2009 in Newport, Oregon. All rides begin and end at the Yaquina Lighthouse
Visitors Center. The courses open at 7 am and close at 5 pm. Three rest
stops and one water stop along the route provide water, a variety of fresh fruits, cooked food
items and other snacks. Mechanical & SAG support will be available on all routes.

Riders choose from three distances: 25, 70 (extended metric century) or 100 miles
on a course that connects two lighthouses, weaves through Newport's historic
Bayfront, follows the Yaquina and Siletz rivers and passes along the
beautiful Central Coast of Oregon including breathtaking vistas at Cape
Foulweather. Watch for whales and birdwatchers look for herons, egret and
bald eagles along some of Oregon's most diverse coastal scenery and
roadways.

Proceeds from the rides go to Newport's Friends of the Lighthouses,
Waldport's Green Bikes Program and other local, regional and national
non-profit cycling organizations.

Please visit www.yaquinawheels.org/Century.html for more information and a link to online registration or a mail-in form.

P.S. for you NorCal riders: Lots cooler up here on the Oregon coast this time of year.

One of my favorite areas in the world!! Oysters, mushrooming, rain forest...! I may actually try to work this in! I do wish that you had posted earlier. So many good rides and SO HARD to find out about them.

How do other folks find these gems?

Cheers,
Geary

We went to Newport last summer on vacation-absolutely incredible area. I'd love to do this ride too, but notice is a bit short. On the list for next year.

Don't forget Rogue Brewing is in Newport.

And the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Hey, really sorry about not posting about our ride earlier....guess I didn't expect so much interest.

We generally get it onto calendars and other club websites up here in the PNW and I post it in the PNW forum, but I never tried the NorCal forum before...your forum is pretty busy and I figured it would fall off the bottom pretty fast if I didn't bump it often...I didn't want to be a pest.

Rushfan: Thanks for adding in about the Rouge Brewery and the Aquarium.

Still hope to still get a few of you up this way...escape the heat.

Bump again, news flash:

Online registration has been extended until Friday the 14th for those who are waiting for the last minute. So you can still save a few $$ over day of ride registration.

I see it's heating up again in the Sacramento area.....nice and cool up here...
