squirrel story

so ...3 months ago i hit a squirrel on my bike hoping it would go under like a speed bump because there was no way in heck i was going to be able to stop the bike with out harm to myself (going way to fast)
short story it didn't it whent around the front tire and got cought in the fork and bent my down tube to the point i couldent ride the frame (ill add pictures if anyone wants to see the frame)

so i just got back into riding again (i bent the frame back) and i'm looking for another frame or complete bike
i'm a collage student so money is tight but i would be willing to work or give you money as i get it
im shere i could find another person who i ride with that could vouch for me

im looking for a 56cm frame last bike was a 1985 schwinn peloton with super be pro all around (if i get a complete bike and you want the superbee parts i would be more then happy to let you have them there awesome groupset)

thank you so much joel for trying maybe ill get better luck this time finding a frame now that i have asked myself

I'm glad you've recovered from the crash.

My advice on squirrels is aim for its head. Squirrels in your path will always always jump to the left or right at the last second. You are least likely to hit it if you aim for where its head is before it jumps. I've been doing this for 20 years and have never hit one.

I have heard that this works for dogs and street muggers, too. YMMV.

Someone on here said to hiss at them as you approach. I've had good results with that.

I've run over cats, dogs, and what might have been a raccoon (it was dark), but not yet a squirrel.

+1

I may not be the one your heard it from, but I've posted it in the past. I have a lot of squirrels around here and if I see I'm approaching an "undecided" one, a loud steady hiss seems to send them scrambling on a straight line away from me. Must be a predator thing, but it works really well.

Yes, BBM, my wife now laughs at me for hissing at squirrels. And it's your fault. She laughed at me before, but now she has a new reason.

Haven't hit a squirrel yet, but I've had plenty of close calls. Mice and rats, too. I've hit a dog before (he was unharmed). Came pretty close to broadsiding a buck in the dark while bombing a hill.

I nicked one on the back wheel on a ride recently. Anthoni said he saw it take flight and tumble. I didn't feel it on the bike.

If you want a squirrel to jump, just aim for his nuts!

i've hit 4 squirrels already this summer. One i think i hit in the head.. went under my front tire, didn't sound good for the squirrel. Another started actually chasing my front wheel.. or he was trying to race me. It actually attempted to jump into my spokes, but got kicked up and bounced off my thigh! Clipped another with my pedal.

I'll try the hissing thing, but i've just gotten to the point where i expect to deal w/ squirrels. (all on the american river bike trail)

Jumped into the spokes, but wriggled mostly through before meeting the fork - broke tail, then met specialized road shoe for flight lesson.

I will try the hiss!

There are dumb squirrels in Davis, too. Coming back on the Russell Blvd. bike trail from a ride on Sunday a squirrel ran underneath a racing recumbent going about 17mph right in front of me. We were amazed to see it miss both wheels...
