Shasta Lake City Council Rejects CalTrans Grant Money for Bicycling
Sheesh...two short-sighted city council members voted against the city of Shasta Lake from applying for $220,000 in CalTrans grants for bicycling infrastructure improvement projects.
The city would have only had to come up with $25,000 for this grant, but the anti-bike, "fiscal conservatives" killed the project. The city really could have used the jobs, and the roadway improvements would have benefited both cyclists and drivers.
Here's hoping that when voters think of council members "Ron Dixon" and "Dolores Lucero", they think "Penny Wise" and "Pound Foolish".

*sigh* All I can tell you is that "fiscal conservative" and "anti-bike" don't necessarily go together. Money is tight in all jurisdictions in CA.
Why not do what was suggested? Have a fund raiser or some sort of event and see if that $25,000 can be come up with via private funds?

Very recently, my Village did the same thing.
Turned down a really big grant, because we just don't have an extra 25,000 laying around. Gave the money back to the State.
Our existing revenue is needed for more pressing purposes.
I applaud their fiscal restraint - unlike those squirrels in Congress.
We should not be spending money we don't have.......
You really should be applauding them...
