Death Ride 2010

Don't forget that the registration for The Death Ride starts (and quickly ends) tomorrow, December 10 at 10am. This year unlike last year there is only one registration date.

The registration link is here.

I will miss this great ride in 2010. Will be in France for a wedding.

Good luck on the registration, tense minutes to get through the pack.

As much as I want to do this, I am too scared of failure in it. That, and being 5 months into this sport, plus I have no idea where I'll be or what I'll be doing in 7 months... haha.

I wish the best of luck to those that partake in this event!

I'm planning on doing it again, but won't be spending the money tomorrow. Should be plenty of registrations on Craig's List as we get closer to the date.

What an improvement from last year's registration. First try on the website. They even list the registration time down to the millisecond.

I was planning on trying to do 5 passes on my trike this year as a crazy goal. Hopefully I can pick up an entry near the time.

Are results published for this event? I couldn't find any on the website. What is the typical range of times to complete the race?

Also, any links to the climb profiles would be much appreciated.

You have to be pretty fast and strong to finish in under 10 hours. The year I did all 5 passes it took me over 14 hours, but that included almost an hour huddled under an overhang to get out of the hailstorm that blew in..... They sweep the course around 8. There's no timing involved, no official times.

There is a climbing profile on the Death Ride website: http://www.deathride.com/elemap.html

The only thing that feels wrong is that after 5 passes, that last hill up to Turtle Rock Park seems much bigger!

Last year we got to the start late and parked at the bottom. It made for a great warmup before the plunge into Markleeville. And we drove up for the after ride dinner.

I know of a few folks who have done it in 8 1/2 hours, but not many. Ericm979, who posts here sometimes, is one of them IIRC.

I'm in but I think medical issues may have me off bike for six months or so.

Which reminds me...

A good description of the "just in time" approach to finishing for those of us who are climbing challenged can be found on Arnie Baker's website
