Bay area till end of July- anyone up for riding?

Have just arrived in the Bay area and will be here until close to the end of the month, hoping to find some people interested in riding marin headlands, old highway 1 out of pacifica, mount tam, and just city riding like golden gate to the presidio and down by cliff house, etc.

I'm not fast and not fancy. Steel roadbike with 35c tires for the trails of Marin and Tam.

Also wondering if there is a ciclovia this month or did i miss it.

thinking of marin the next couple of days, old highway 1 over the weekend, mount tam and marin during the week as well. Am staying within view of the ferry building under the bay bridge for the next 3 days.

Hope to see some of you out there, im the bewildered looking guy on the drop bar travelerscheck ); with fat road tires.

anyway, respond to this thread if anyone is interested it riding anytime in the next weeks with a mossy rider from the north.

about 27 miles and a great ride out to the headlands.

so, a little construction on upper conzulman, took the coast trail from the high saddle to the visitors center, mucked around the batteries up by the lighthouse.
On the way back on bunker road, i saw a MOUNTAIN LION loping towards some parked workers cars down near the horse corral. cool. the puma was not afraid of car noises or a safety whistle i railed on, got plenty of pics from a bit of a distance.

will be riding great highway to pacifica & old coast highway to montara(?sp) and back one day this weekend if anyone is interested.

okay, i looked at the pics, the cat was a bit mottled, it was likely a bobcat, but BIG. i called the park, dispatch said there's a big old rangy bobcat that hangs out in those parts.

still pretty cool. bunker tunnel was a wild descent. .

yeah, at first glance it can be hard to tell. but when you actually see a mountain lion there's no mistaking it for a bobcat... although my understanding is it's all about the ones you don't see..

If it has a long tail, it's a mountain lion. Short stub, bobcat.
There might be something coming up in San Jose, where they close a section of street for peds and cyclists, with some longer rides led by a ride leader. On some weekends, they close streets around Golden Gate Park for Sunday riding.
Scroll down to the bottom of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's page and there is a phone number. They should know about a Ciclovia.

If you were lucky enough to actually see a mountain lion, I envy you! While I'd be happy to meet up and go for a ride, I am pretty much a commuting/utility sort of rider (and very new mountain biker) and have zero experience with road riding, so perhaps I wouldn't be the best companion.

thats okay! hope the riding is good for you, ro-monster!

Rode to Hawk Camp yesterday afternoon high in the marin headlands and camped out last night, this morning descended alta trail to sausilito and then took some beautiful bike path to mill valley, then looped around both the strawberry peninsula and the tiburon peninsula to take the ferry back to downtown.

i stopped at paradise beach park on the tiburon and there was nobody there! and in the highlands probably saw a half dozen people, tops! what gives?

anyway, riding this Sunday pacifica to montara on the old highway 1, 11 AM meeting at the pacifica pier? if anyone is up for it. I'm meeting up with one other BF members, he thought it would be okay if others wanted to tag along, cyclocross type bikes recommended.

I'll be the white helmeted guy with a brown, dusty travelerscheck.

Hawk Camp is awesome! I backpacked up there (starting at Muir Woods) and stayed overnight a couple of years ago. Now that I think about it, those trails in the Headlands are really better suited for mountain bikes than boots though. I'll have to try that out.

The riding's been great so far!

rode with pacificaslim over top of the old montara road and then back from pacifica to the city and down O'Shaunassey again.

If anyone is up for a Tuesday morning ride over top of radio tower road and mount san bruno, let me know! leaving from somewhere around the cow palace, i'll be riding there from the mission district first.

hope everyone else has been enjoying their summer riding in SF as much as i have, i cannot believe the quality of the riding here both on road and off within striking distance of anywhere in the city on a bicycle!
