Waves to Wine 2010

It was my first century. I had a blast, and was beat at the end. I wish I had stayed less time in the rest stops. It totaled 2:18 of not moving time. Riding time was 6:46 (which averages 13.9 mph). There was almost 6000 ft of climbing, and I am a super slow climber...

There was a couple spots in the course that there were photographers that looked pretty official. I know that last year iLLumix Studio shot and posted pictures of this same ride. It does not look like they did it this year. I was wondering if anyone knows who was shooting and if those photos are available online and/or for purchase. I'd like to see my suffering face

Will try to do it again next year, and signed up for the Foxy Fall in a few weeks...

Regards,

Guilherme

Once we left the coast and went inland, it was HOT.

Hi, sorry I missed this thread, I've been away for a while.

I hope you enjoyed the rest stop at the West Marin School in Point Reyes Station (we had the tropical island / flamingo theme going, be that as it may). A bunch of friends, my husband & I ran that rest stop.

It was a long, hot, and very fun day!

All rest stops were great. They all had ICE which was crucial... One thing that we missed at that particular spot was a mechanic. One of my buddies went over a pot hole a few miles before the stop and got a flat. We fixed his flat and went on, but he used his last spare tube and was hoping to get an extra one at the stop. He had to wait until the next one where he did buy his extra tube for another eventual flat (which never occurred, BTW).

Thanks again for the support...

Oh geeze, tell me about it! The mechanic that the ride organizers assigned to our stop never showed up.

Had we known that the mechanic would be a no-show, my husband and I would have brought our tools and a bunch of spare tubes. As it was, my husband was able to help out a few people with minor repairs.

I got a real kick out of one woman who rolled up to the table and asked for the mechanic. I sheepishly apologized and told her that we didn't have one at that stop, but I asked her what the problem was in case we could help her out.

She replied that she wanted a tuneup*. (A tuneup?? wtf??)

I tried to stifle a snicker and told her "Sorry hon, ain't gonna happen here!"

*One of the SAG drivers, who also happened to be a mechanic, rolled into our stop a bit later and was able to help with some riders' mechanical problems. I told him about the woman who wanted a tuneup (!!) and he told me that it wasn't all that uncommon; some people actually show up at event rides expecting the ride mechanics to give them free tuneups. Good grief.

But all my kvetching about the mechanic aside, I was so grateful that the ride organizers came through big time and gave us loads of water and ice. I was beginning to wonder if our supplies would hold up in the blazing heat, now THAT would have been awful if we ran out, but we wound up with more than enough water and ice. Thank goodness!
