Very first BF ride that I can remember ... not too many familiar faces in this one.

April '08.

Cowboy Curtis meets Diablo Scott and is rather disappointed to find that he looks nothing like Claudia Schiffer.

SlowPoke Ride #1, February 8, 2009.

The crowd gathers, the anticipation builds . . . .

On the way south.

Regrouping in Sunol.

She's still way too good for you, Dan . . . .

Getting ready to chow down at the now-defunct Dublin branch of North Forty BBQ. We show up & eat, they go out of business. Coincidence? I think not.

Maybe we'll do more of these. Or maybe not . . . .

More from the 2007 Coastal Century:

Who's that dork in a t-shirt and cut-off slacks riding a touring bike with 32c tires and panniers?

I had no idea what a hill was. I nearly died on that mild course.

This is the first mention on the NorCal forum I've seen of a Slow Poke ride. Might have some real appeal to my wife and I on our tandem. The misty, foggy nature of a number of these pictures probably speaks to some sort of BF curse.

How could you have missed the SlowPoke series? This series is steeped in tradition of several weeks' standing. Bigbossman and I must have put on, what, three or four of them in 2009. You obviously blinked at just the wrong time.

Depending on how motivated we are, one or the other of us might try again in 2011. Of course, there's nothing preventing anyone else from putting together a 12mph average speed (slower if there are any climbs longer than 200 yards), 20-25 mile ride featuring food and socializing.

Just sayin' . . . .

Yeah, that sure looks like the parking lot of the Pinole Jack-in-the-Box, just one of the fine eateries to which the SlowPokes gave their custom.
