Stage 2 Relocating to Nevada City

Yes, they are changing the start location. Freezing temps, and Donner Pass closed last night, they decided to change to Nevada City, ending up with 3 circuit laps around the Capitol Building in Sacramento.

I saw this as well, hopefully people can mobilize and make a decent showing at the start. This thing just needs to get rolling. I'll be out there for Auburn -Modesto, Livermore - San Jose.

When I heard Paul Liggett proclaim on yesterday's telecast that Stage 2 was guaranteed I had my doubts. Glad to see they will finally kick this race off!

Gotta give kudos for Nevada City to step up to the plate so quickly, and on such short notice. But then again, they've done many races in the past, so this may be old hat to them.

Totally agree. It would be awesome if Nevada City got a host of thank you letters for stepping up.

Here's my video of the final four laps of Stage 2, recorded from the corner of 18th and L Streets in midtown Sacramento.

I apologize for the shakiness. I had to stand on the frame of my trike to see over the heads of the taller people in front of me. Then I had the marshal and his waving flag in the way at times. Then it got quite windy and rainy, so I had to hold my umbrella with one hand and record with the other.

Uh, that's what he's supposed to do, so that the riders can tell to change direction.

What's with the attitude? I'm not mad at the marshal for doing his job, sheesh! I just had the luck of being in that spot. There wasn't anywhere else to record from.

I know the weather sucks today, but try to be a little nicer to your fellow cyclists, okay?

That sure would be fun! Then I could do some climbing afterwards I wanted to do that tomorrow after Stage 3 in Auburn, but once again they're forecasting garbage so that ain't happening

Wasn't meant to be with an attitude ... sorry if it came out that way. As a former traveling course marshall, we ran into many idiots, who kept wanting to get a good shot, while putting himself, and riders in grave danger.

No problem I did make sure I never got in anyone's way, which is why I was always behind the marshal. I won't act pushy or put other people in danger for the sake of a video

What a dumbass! This must be the video I heard about years ago where a photographer caused a crash. I'm glad it didn't cost the rider the stage win

You know, he was in the riders path but the rider went to his left (towards the crowd). I'd think he' go to the right (center of the road). But in that state of mind, I'm sure the rider is totally out of his mind and not expected to make great decisions.. I've noticed that more races are using barriers in that situation. Does minimize the risk but sort of takes away from the race.

If course at our rate of climbing, I'm sure we'd have alot more time to think compared to Giuseppe.

I noticed that, but like you I sympathize with the rider. I once ran a stop sign on a climb and looked up just in time to notice a car that stopped in the middle of the intersection to let me go. Oops! On less intense efforts I think more clearly too.

After that incident I'm more careful, even though most of the blood flow is going to my legs and not my brain
