    ToC accident?

    Anyone with any more info?
A bicyclist suffered major injuries after colliding with a car in San Jose this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cyclist was struck in the 4100 block of Sierra Road at about 4:10 p.m., CHP Sgt. John Carman said.

Carman said the cyclist was struck during the Tour of California, a race which began Monday in Nevada City, stretches more than 800 miles through California, and finishes May 22 in Thousand Oaks.

Carman was not able to confirm if the cyclist was participating in the race.

No other information was immediately available.

From what I heard on KRON I think it was a spectator...he was on the road after the race had gone by....

Heard at the scene that he broke a spoke, lost control, and hit a SRAM support wagon. Hope he recovers well and soon.

All I know is when I got to the base of Sierra, they had firetrucks heading up the hill, indicating it was pretty serious.
I'm in it to finish it.

    Guys,
I saw this accident unfold in front of my eyes. He passed me on the way down and I noticed that when he did, he was having problems controlling his bike due to some front wheel high speed wobble. Him and his bike touched another rider about 25 yards in front of me then after they split apart it still appeared he was fighting that front wheel. However about 20 yards past that encounter he appeared to get the bike under control and the front wheel seemed to totally stabilize as he went around the corner. Next thing I see is the guy lying on his back in very bad shape on a right hand bend with the SRAM support vehicle stopped. It was not good but praise God he survived. Yes, the road was full of people walking, Tour Riders, and other bikes at that time. There was a fire truck, paramedic, and an ambulance about (2) turns down the road because of another crash. They couldn't even get up the road and from what I could hear on the radio they were sending another ambulance for this person. This may be the end of a mountain top finish for the Amgen at least in San Jose.
