two bicyclists killed by speeding SUV in Concord this morning
Family of 3 was bicycling on a sidewalk bike path. Teenager driving a Cadillac Escalade jumped the curb, hit a fire hydrant, then hit the bicyclists. Father and daughter were killed. Second daughter is hospitalized.

Horrible. Unspeakably tragic. I'm so sorry for the family affected; I cannot begin to imagine what this does to them. I hope they throw the book at the driver and make an example of him. Was he "distracted", e.g. Waze-ing, texting, updating his Twitter status? If so, boom! Send him packing. And since he's young he'll have many years to contemplate his actions. Those are shoes I do not wish to walk a mile in (sorry to end with a preposition).

Sad.
People should get special training to drive those mini tanks, and teenagers should be the last people allowed to drive them.

Local newsblogger reports the kid was definitely speeding, and recently flunked some kind of drug test. Check out the damage to the building he hit. I hope his parents have a big house and a lot of money to forfeit for their bad decision of letting their son drive that tank.

And another moron who is too stupid to pass high school, too lazy to get a job, and spends all his money (Gee, thanks mom and dad!) fixing up his SUV with big wheels and a sound system. Since he's 17, he and the parents are liable and will probably be paying for this for the rest of their lives and this POS will probably become a welfare person because any money he makes will go to the victims. The poor victims will never get back their family and probably will be lucky to get enough money to pay for all the bills. This idiot kid needs some serious jail time, which he probably won't get because he's 17, and needs to NEVER get a drivers license again, but then he'll just get messed up and be an unlicensed driver.
I don't know the kid personally, but it sounds like he should dig a hole, hop in, cover himself up and plant a tree on top of him so that he becomes compost. Probably the first worthwhile thing he'd ever do in his life!

All you have to do is NOT drive with your head up your @$$ and there is no problem. As a retired traffic officer I have no sympathy for these idiots. I've seen too much injury and death because of these idiots!

"Cellphone records were being checked as investigators try to determine whether talking on a phone may have contributed to a crash that killed a Concord man and his daughter, " police said Sunday.
"Friends of the teenage driver told KTVU he was on his way to a friend's house when he lost control of the SUV. They also said he would often drive fast and sometimes would talk on his cell phone."

always rides with luggage
Gas chamber, then hang him, then the firing squad while on the electric chair, then draw and quarter what's left.

I think he was merely adding comments to yours.
Apparently he was speeding and attempting to go around another vehicle when he lost control. He must have been going really really fast in order to lose both front wheels of that Escalade.

You gonna eat that?
A Mitsubishi Lancer would have been just as deadly I bet.

That is exactly what I want my teenager to drive in, and he did. You want your child in a "tank". The issue would be their actions once behind that wheel. Looking at the damage on that car it is clear the driver did something extremely foolish - something he will live with the rest of his life. The issue is reckless driving and possibly distracted driven, combined with excessive speed. Really horrible, Senseless and Sad.

This is horrible and so upsetting.
After reading other websites regarding the accident I wonder why this 'punk' was still allowed to drive. This is not the normal hyper, immature teen we are talking about here, this is gang type material. Multiple speeding tickets, failed drug tests, problems at school... and yet he owns a custom Cadillac Escalade at 17. What kind of parents has he? Just check his friends too. A copy of his Facebook page is on the web, his friends defend him and throw insults at the victims. This is unbelievable. I hope justice turns out against his parents too, they share a major deal of responsibility here.

Incredibly tragic event. Unfortunately, in this country driving is a "right" not a privilege and with no Wonderlic test required.

If we had a proper justice system, this young man would be on trial for murder, with his parents facing accessory charges. The world's a slightly worse and needlessly dangerous place every day the killer spends outside of jail.
