No Bike Shops in Woodside or Portola Valley
Anyone know why there are no bike shops in Woodside or Portola Valley? There is a lot of bike traffic and potential customer base to support at least repairs and accessories (if not bike sales).
Perhaps the rent is too high to be feasible or the locals would frown upon the business?

always rides with luggage
While it is true that some of the locals may not want to encourage cycling in their neighborhood, it just seems that the local market is pretty well covered by all of the bike shops down by El Camino in Redwood City, Menlo Park, and Palo Alto.

There aren't many shops at all in these areas! I can't imagine a bike shop could easily sustain a business in Woodside or Portola Valley... On the plus side, PV is quite pro cycling at the moment - I should know, I'm on the town's official "Bicycle Pedestrian and Traffic Safety" commitee, and there is a very strong bias towards cyclist representation amongst the 9 members.
