What size mountain bike for me?

I ride a 52 - 54 cm road bike. I'm 5'8" with a 30 in inseam. What size Mtn bike would you say will fit me? I want to buy used from Craigslist and don't want to spend too much. Don't want to go to a bike store to get fitted because I most likely not buy from them. What do you think?

I'd probably say about a 16.5" best verify that though.

Hey Chris, late to the party and just saw this thread, but, you could try this and see if it helps nail down a starting point for you. Good luck.

I'm 5'9" and used to ride a medium Cannondale 26er (RZ120). I switched to a Giant 29er (Anthem X4) and also ride a M, but the standover on the bike is quite a bit taller. Make sure that in addition to the top tube length being right for you that you won't smash the family jewels on the top tube if you have to jump off in a hurry. It's not uncommon to be on a size smaller with a 29er vs a 26er.
