Carquinez Scenic Drive to close to cyclists

    http://511contracosta.org/carquinez-...loses-repairs/

The section of Carquinez Scenic Drive between Martinez and the old Brickyard in Port Costa was closed by the County in 1983. In December 2012, the East Bay Regional Park District acquired the right-of-way from Contra Costa County and in June 2012, the Park District will begin a $5 million project to repair the landslides, reconstruct the drainage structures and repurpose the corridor as a paved, Class 1 segment of the Bay Trail.

The project will take two construction seasons to complete, with completion projected to be in August of 2014. During the construction and due to the activities involving heavy equipment, the East Bay Regional Parks District will be enforcing a “hard closure” of the corridor and will be actively citing violators. The East Bay Regional Park District is asking for the cooperation from the public during the closure.

Based on the outsourced low quality private construction done around here lately, I'll take that good ol' govt work any effing day of the week.

Of course, aside from the difficulty of starting the work in the past, it also means starting the work BEFORE they acquired the right of way from the County. What happens when the county objects to the work starting, and Easy Bay Regional Parks shows the acquisition paperwork dated in the future? I'd get into other problems concerning this plan (like whether there are alternate timelines or a unified timeline and what that means), but I'm leaving to ride that road right now before it closes. See you 11 months ago.

For any bridging/shoring work, I bet they can get some slightly used galvanized bolts from CalTrans for cheap . . . .

Bashing the government is so easy, but I can tell you, the vast majority of private sector companies that do similar work are just as terrible. Trust me, I know. They just take advantage of government contracts and milk as much money out of...the taxpayers...as they can.
