Visiting Fresno - Advice on Ride

Visiting Fresno next week for several days. Thought I'd bring the bike. Found this ride on mapmyride.

I was there for work a few weeks ago. I was working south-west of town and traffic on those rural roads was insanely fast in the morning. If I'm doing this route early, like 5:30 or 6AM, is traffic crazy?

Where will you be staying? Are you ok with driving to ride? What sort of ride are you looking to do? Climbing?

Check the ride calendar here. There are rides most weekdays.

Thanks for the link. Nice site. Looks like some fun rides.

I'm staying in downtown. I only have Friday AM to ride before I have to head back to LA. Not too thrilled about driving to a ride. I don't mind climbing. I do the mountains down here periodically. My daily ride is about 2200 feet of climb.

I thought a ride would be a great way to check out the area.

I drew a couple of potential routes, both starting downtown at the convention center. This one is pretty flat, but takes you out on a relatively scenic loop. It's a popular ride here locally.

    another popular local ride.

Heading to work now. I will work on some more options for you this evening.
If I were going to be around on Friday I'd love to ride along with you.

If you are a Facebooker, you can look for rides or riders going out that day here (I'm not exactly sure if these are "open" groups, but I seem to remember people asking about rides there ...)

Wow! Thanks for the links! Looking forward to trying one of 'em.

The first route you posted, are there water stops? I drink a lot on my rides.

There is a cafe that caters to cyclists (Blossom Trail Cafe) on Belmont & Academy. You pass it at about 12 miles and again at 40ish(?). If you go a bit beyond the turn off Trimmer Springs Rd there is Doyal's Store (not sure if it is open now .... haven't done this ride since last winter ..... at that time they were prepping for their "grand reopening")
If you don't mind driving to ride here is another out and back with a nice climb then descent. Starts at a Starbucks and passes a convenience store at about 10 miles, with water and a porto at the turnaround.

    Henry:

Thanks for posting the ride options for me. I did the Belmont/King River route you suggested. It was a really beautiful ride, the perfect way to end a busy work week.

And the ladies at Blossom Cafe are really sweet! Had a great breakfast there on my way back yesterday.

    Thanks, again.

Very happy that you enjoyed the ride. Wish I had been able to ride along with you. If you are in the area again, let me know and maybe we can take a ride.

    Cheers!
