commute route ideas from campbell?

does anybody ride west from campbell area during commute hours? what roads do you guys take?

for years i've been taking campbell ave. and it's usually fine off-peak hours or on the weekends. but during weekdays rush hour the traffic paired with the half-gutter-half-bike-lane can get pretty treacherous. i already avoid it on the way back and go through bucknall, straight to the nice san tomas expy overpass. i'm thinking about doing the same on the way their but was curious to see what others do? different routes? leave later/earlier? HTFU?

in general, i'm trying to reach foothill expy., which i can take north to woodside/menlo park area. i usually jump on it somewhere in cupertino, either through residential streets (rainbow-bubb-mcclellan), or stevens creek, or homestead. sometimes, i'll ride through HWY9, then pierce and mt. eden. to cupertino i usually take either campbell-prospect route or campbell-bucknall-cox.

What is your starting and ending points? I used to commute along Campbell Ave to Prospect headed towards Foothill. I left early in the morning so headed out wasn't bad. In the evening it was more the long red lights that irked me. Bucknall has less traffic, that's for sure.

I did this commute for about a year from Campbell to Palo Alto (Page Mill). My starting point was around San Tomas Aquino.
Route 1: Campbell Ave (annoying red light at left turn in front of Target where it meets with Hamilton), Prospect (horribly long light at Lawrence), Stelling, Rainbow, Terrace or Bubb (or climb Regnart to top and back down if I want to beat myself up before work), Hyannisport, Linda Vista, McClellan to Foothill

Route 2: Grimbsy, Baylor, Cox up to Saratoga/Sunnyvale, left on Prospect then same as above.

In the morning I would leave between 6 and 7, never later than 7:15am. Other than red lights, the school parent student drop offs at Hyannisport and McClellan were the bottlenecks.

On the way home it wasn't too bad until after the Chevron station where it becomes Campbell Ave. Eyes have to be everywhere as there are so many more points for cars to turn in and not see you.

i see, so you used to leave much earlier than i do. usually, i leave after 9:00am so i get to campbell ave. 9:30am - 10:00am. i live close to del mar high school.

on tuesday i couldn't sleep and left a bit earlier, i got to campbell ave. by ~8:10am and this was my experience: http://youtu.be/_nbIkDr6mww is this how you remember your it?

i especially enjoy school/VTA busses: http://youtu.be/_nbIkDr6mww?t=2m40s

yeah, what i've been doing on the way back is making a right on woodglen and then taking bucknall all the way to the san tomas overpass (and skipping the campbell & san tomas light).
