Questions - Mt Diablo, BART to, Best Time/Day?
I'll be house sitting in Berkeley over Xmas and will have my road bike, but may not have a car (as in, wifey may be using it). I want to ride Mt Diablo, a climb I've read about but have never been to.
Can I take BART to Walnut Creek or some other station and be just a warm up ride on non-crazy roads away from the best entrance to the park? I'm not sure what side of the park I should start from.
In December, will early afternoon on a weekday be an okay time to go? Or would very early on a weekend day be better? Those are my two options. I'm assuming the park is never closed to bikes.
I think it will be challenging for me, so I will spend the remaining weekends of the year doing longer climbs up here in Portland. My road bike is not set up for climbing but I just struggle along.

Go to Pleasant Hill BART and ride the trail to Bancroft and Walnut. https://www.mapmyride.com/us/clayton-...route-15535118

What Scott said. Just be mindful of the proper clothing for the descent, after heating up and getting drenched in sweat it isn't hard to freeze on the way down in the winter without the proper layers. Early afternoon would be the best time to go to minimize this. It is a fantastic climb! Try to go down the south side since you will be heading up the north to get the full Diablo effect
