Morgan Territory Road 11-23-13

I rode Morgan Territory Road yesterday for the first time since the summer, and it was gorgeous up there! I had waited till after the first rain, because I was afraid that the air would be dusty and acrid from the fire, but though you could see the fire scars on Diablo if you looked, there was no trace of the fire near Morgan Territory Road, and the water fountains and toilets at the park on top were open and working.

I was puzzled: I'm slow, and we took a nice long lunch break at the picnic tables on top, so the whole ride from Concord BART to Dublin-Pleasanton BART took about 5 hours -- and we did not see one other cyclist on Morgan Territory Road, and only three cyclists on the whole ride, counting kids and commuters. (One car on Morgan Territory Road did have a couple of mountain bikes on the roof -- but they weren't riding). Where did all the cyclists go? Were they _all_ skiing?

Are the restrooms and water fountains still open and working on Diablo? If not, which are open and which are closed? In particular, where is there to get water on the way up?

Thanks!

I am glad you liked Mr. Morgan's "Morning side of the mountain" as he is supposed to have called it. I ride it a lot with several locals doing so to.
The day you rode we went west to some favorite local bumps: The 3 Bears and Pig Farm Hill. They are easy to reach from Orinda BART.

Not sure about Diablo water and bathrooms. I have ridden it a couple times since the fire, but can't recall. I don't drink much in cool weather I guess. Sorry.

I know the water at Diablo is available at the junction and the summit, though there are signs to conserve. Bathrooms I don't know.

I rode to the summit this Saturday and last, and there were three times as many riders last week. Don't know where people went this weekend. A lot of them disappear when the weather turns sour. I'll be on my bike Thanksgiving Day, rain or shine

I was on Diablo doing "NG to Ranger Station" repeats and saw very few bikes compared to "normal". Fine by me! It was cold when I started at 7:30 (about 38 deg), but even at 10:30 there only 1 or 2 other bikes at the Ranger Station.

There's water at Junction, and at the Summit and several of the picnic areas on Summit Road.

The bathrooms at Junction are out of service for some kind of maintenance problem.... been that way for a couple months. The one at the Lower Summit Lot is being re-built as part of an ADA project so there's just a couple portapotties there now.

There are a couple other picnic areas on Summit Road that were destroyed by the fire - the bathroom at Muir completely burned down.

I haven't noticed a sudden drop in riders... just sort of the gradual thinning out typical of this time of year - but we had some bad wind storms last week and that may have scared off a few people.

Summary: There are no bathrooms on NGR, none of the bathrooms on SGR were damaged, the bathroom at Junction is closed (but the one at Sunset is just a little ways up Summit Road), and at least half of the bathrooms on Summit Road are open.
