I'm not going to make it. My fitness is way off right now. Have a great time! And I hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas.

Aaaarrrrgggg. Tricia says we can't cancel our plans, just because we've had them for months and she doesn't want to leave money on the table. No sense if priorities..

I'm conflicted about the long range forecast for the whole state. Love getting long rides in on the weekends without getting wet, but man...we are so ridiculously dry around here. Plus I ski, so there's that too

Hopefully everyone had a Merry Christmas.

I really wanted to come up north and meet everyone, but alas it is not happening. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that I was close to doing 4K miles on Strava during 2013, so I decided to push myself to get the final 200 miles before the end of the year. Might have pushed myself too hard, because my left knee started to hurt. Decided to take the rest of the year off (might commute on Monday/Tuesday) and end the year at 39xx miles. Too bad, I actually am free this weekend and my friend in the area is around to host.

Lance, I hope and trust that your guests have been suitably warned about the "Look, it's a _______" (fill in blank with animal or phenomenon of your choice) Cat 6 racing maneuver . . . .

And remember - there are no ocelots in California outside of zoos. I have this on good authority.

Seriously, another bail-out option that I actually considered for about ten seconds before family obligations got in the way (ah, yes, Christmas visits, the gift that keeps on giving) is to turn around at the top of Morgan and retrace your path back to the cars. Just a thought.

Ok folks, I'm rethinking this. Might make it after all. I'm going to suffer mightily though. I'll likely have 1 or 2 others with me.

I'm a BF'er from Portland, visiting Berkeley for two weeks, and I brought my bike with plans to ride Mt Diablo. I had planned to ride it on Sunday, so there is some chance I will run into you guys. Which I would like to do. I like meeting other BF'ers.

Any idea what time, roughly, you might be at the gate? I could try to time my arrival there to try to catch your group.

Will you folks be wearing anything distinctive?

I'll be the lost-looking guy in a yellow KAS Mavic jersey on a dark blue vintage Cannondale road bike, with a Fred-ish light zip-tied to my Fred-ish MTB helmet.

We will be entering the South Gate Rd/Diablo Scenic Rd. entrance of Mt. Diablo at the midpoint of this ride.
It is at Mile 36 of our ride, the halfway point and just after a Lunch Stop. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/3817213
So... wheels down at 9 and at South Gate Rd/Diablo Scenic Rd. at... Noon?

Look for me in a green Mt. Diablo jersey

Looking forward to it. See you all tomorrow.

Joel - Yep, as Daniel said, you'll do fine. I'm still not fully back from my crash in August (ribs and pelvic fractures), so we can share in our lack of fitness :-).

I think I will make it. I was able to beat a five year old today up a climb so I am confident I won't get dropped.

Great! I will keep an eye out for the green jersey :-). Most likely you will see me stopped and gasping somewhere on the climb, pretending to have a mechanical.
