NorCal East, Group Ride, Saturday the 22nd

Ok folks. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. It's looking good for me on the 22nd, so that'll be the date. The route is amazing, and very green right now. There are a few stretches of busy roads, and only 1 short section with no bike lane (unfortunately, it's up a short hill). 2 full bottles will absolutely be required. There is one long stretch with no where to refill, but 2 bottles should be plenty. Helmet needed, along with stuff to fix a flat, etc. The route is about 81mi from my place in Rancho Cordova.

Post ride is burgers at my place. I'll supply the burgers, buns, and condiments. Bring beer and appetizer or dessert stuff. Some of my local friends will likely be along as well.

Roll time is 8:30 SHARP.
Route from nearby (1.5mi from my place): http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4181063
There are a few stops on the way. There's water/coffee/pastry at Pete's coffee right before Latrobe. Lunch at Subway in Shingle Springs. Coffee/pastry at Folsom Bike/Grind on the bike trail on the return.

Who's in? If you're in, I'll PM you my phone number and address. Be a few minutes early, there's room in my fridge and you're more than welcome to come in and have a cup of coffee or change or whatever you need before we roll.

Note: There's a fair bit of climbing on this ride (about 6000 ft), with grades up to about 17%. Be prepared.

Hope to see you!

Coming:
A whole bunch of my local group

Darn it all. The Los Vaquerous Time Trial is that day. But I'll miss that too. My daughter in law is having a shower I'm supposed to go to, but I'm not.
Instead, I'll be riding the Solvang Double Century. Have fun. I wish i could join you.

Probably the most contorted RSVP I've ever read...

I'm a local, so hope to make it. Should know by next week. Either way, thanks for hosting the ride, Joel.

I'm reading that as "informatively poetic RSVP I've ever read."

Hi Joel, tried to PM you but says I need 50 posts so now I am only 49 short.....

I lurk but don't post, but follow the Norcal forum some. I rode the main loop of the route you posted yesterday (in the wind, fun!) and it is a great route. I have ridden some of it before and some parts I ride regularly. One thing you may already know is that Thunder Lane is a dirt road for 1.5 miles and it got pretty bad/rutty. I think going up around Cothrin to Fernwood might be a better route although I have never ridden it. I looked on google earth and it looks paved and only add 0.3 miles.

Anyways,

Have Fun!

RWGPS always does strange things through there. The route I plan on is all paved. Ugh. Sometimes I hate technology.

I powered though the dirt road thinking well dammit, if Joel did it so will I. When I mapped it on google it picked the same dirt road.... Go figure. My Spinergy PBO wheels held up great under my 230 lbs though.

There must be something strange about that section that the mapping programs all route through the dirt. It's like a cycling Bermuda Triangle.

We're fixing to leave now (8:40). We'll regroup at the Sac State Aquatic Center about 9:10 if you're running late. The address is: 1901 Hazel Ave, Gold River, CA 95670

Hi from Ohio

I see that you live near Falr Oaks,I have a good friend who lives there.I had my first ride today of the year. Here in NE Ohio, winter wants to hang around. We had a inch of snow this morning and it was 32 degrees, winds 12mph with a windchill of 22degrees.So I only got around 10 miles but had a great time. You have some great country to ride in,thanks for the pictures.Would be great to join you someday.Take care,cjp53.

Glad to see the Sac Area NorCal contingent getting out there. It's sounds like you had a fun day.

81 miles with 6,000 feet of climbing is juuuuuuuust a bit out of my doable zone - by about 50 miles and 5,000 feet. That's why I broke out the SlowPoke Rides again, because I'm slow. I make up for it by stopping a lot, though.
