Info on Walnut Creek, Walnut Ave; Running Trails?

We're moving to Walnut Creek, just above Walnut Ave leading to the Northgate. My concern isn't the biking, it's fairly obvious: but I'm seriously into trail running each morning, flat is OK but I prefer a mix of flat and rollers.

I've map searched Shell open space, Lime Ridge (?) close by... Does anyone know if these areas are decent for trial running, say 6:30am daily @ 5K plus; and if you have any tips about parking and best trails I'm all ears.

Also, do people run the north side of Mt. Diablo early mornings, and is there a preferred trail run for daily training?

Txs for the 411

You have a lot of choices on Diablo especially with Shell Ridge. I know Brazen Racing has a lot of trail running events in Diablo and Briones Park area.

Well, it's specifics I'm hoping for. I found the Indian Creek to Ridge Trail run, but I wonder what residents living on La Casa Via think about runners parking on the adjoining property at 6-6:30AM to go running behind their houses. There are some maps on various sites, but zero information.

It should be expected that when your property borders on public open space with public trails that you'll have people using those trails at various times - I'd think that anyone bothered would already have erected fences.

Another area I'd consider is Castle Rock/Diablo Foothills which has a number of trails leading to Diablo State Park that are more removed from residences.

i've seen a number of running groups park near the end of castle rock and head out through the swimming pool rec area toward the state park entrance which is a couple of miles down the trail. plenty of places to run to your hearts content.

Went to the Athletic Outpost store on Bonanza, got the full download on the local trails. Very nice people; love owner operated small businesses.
