Mt Tam from San Rafael -- route advice needed

    Hi All:

On Thursday, some friends and I are looking to beat the east bay heat and do something new. None of us have done Mt Tam yet and this seems like a good time to do it.

I don't know anything about the area though and would greatly appreciate some input on where to start the ride and recommended roads. Ideally we'd start in San Rafael just after crossing the Richmond-San Rafael bridge since that will maximize riding time and minimize driving time to/from home. We've got about 4 hrs of riding time available so a loop in the 50-60 mile range would be sweet.

Something like this looks promising though I'd like to extend it:

San Rafael / Mt Tam loop in San Rafael, CA, United States | MapMyRide

    Thanks,
    Sonny

Start in Fairfax.... should be easy parking on a Thursday... ride Fairfax-Bolinas road to ridgecrest.... ridgecrest to the top.... on the way back down turn left towards Pan Toll then right to Stinson beach.... continue north a couple miles then right on the other end of faifax-Bolinas... over the top staying on Fairfax-Bolinas back to Fairfax ..... best loop on the planet...

This - with the loop ridden clockwise? Then I would agree with the above statement!

That's the route I rode on my USA trip last year. Can wholeheartedly recommend!
