Sorry about your loss. If it went missing during your drive, I wouldn't hold out too much hope of it being a bike anymore. Maybe an exercise in salvaging components if you find it.

Hard to imagine it fell off while you were driving and didn't notice (from experience... very loud and scary). Could someone have stolen it at a gas station or something?

You have my sympathy. That must have been a terrible feeling getting out of your car and seeing the roof rack empty! Have you tried contacting the CA highway patrol in case they were called in to clear it off the road. As Diablo Scott suggests, possible someone may have taken it while you stopped? I wish you luck in finding it.

Maybe a set of fast and furious thieves stole it while you were driving. Did you notice any close passes?
I also can not imagine not noticing it falling off at any speed. If it did you need to be a more attentive driver. Your automobile would likely show some scratches or something.
Did you drive through low hanging branches or drive thru?
Did you mount it on the wrong car?
Doyou have other issues and just think you had the bike. Have you suffered a head injury recently?
It was probably taken at a stop. Check your home owners policy.
It seriously sucks, at least I hope you figure out what happened.

Are you absolutely certain that it made it to your roof rack? Tired, distracted...are you absolutely sure?

-Are you saying you put the bike on the rack, drove straight home, and it was gone?
-Did you check to see if the bike was still on the rack as you left?
-Did any time elapse between the point when you put the bike on the rack and then got in the car to drive home?
-Did you notice the bike was missing as soon as you got home and got out of the car?
-Did you make any stops?
-Did you not notice the bike missing at the time you made any stops (if any)?
-Are you saying the bike fell off the car, or in some other way was "lost" or are you suggesting you believe it was stolen?
Not trying to be a jerk, but you provided virtually no details of the timeline of events. It would probably help you if you provided more information, at least this could help jog your memory for yourself. If what you posted initially is all you know (I put the bike on the rack and it was gone when I got home), you have basically no chance of ever getting it back.
