Can't catch a break in SF. First a crash, then my bike was stolen.
Been spending a few weeks in San Francisco while I transition between lives. Putzed around, went up some steep streets, over the Golden Gate a couple of times, and even tried to do a solo century (which ended at 84 miles since the cold crept in).
I like climbs, so I went up to Twin Peaks one day, coming in from the north. After coming down, I was in the West Portal neighborhood when my first real crashed occurred. I still have no idea what happened. Once second I was up, the next I was down. I was traveling around 19mph, and I must have hit the muni rail. However, my bike didn't stop, bump or jerk around, it simply skidded out from under me. The impact was on my back right side. Hit the back of my head hard, cracking the helmet, but thankfully my head was fine. Plenty of road rash and pains from the impact. I did not have health insurance, so I just sucked it up and fixed myself up.
After a week, although I still had back pain, I felt good enough to ride around. Once thing I needed to do was go to a shop to true my front wheel, which seemed to be the only damage to the bike.
The next day, I went to REI off of 7th St to quickly look at backpacks. I never use my bike to commute, but I am carless in SF and it would have been a quick trip. In the 20-25 minutes that I was in REI, my bike was stolen. Right in front of the cashiers no less. I am devastated. Gone, just gone. Really hearthbroken. Been through a lot lately, so I really did not need this.
Let me know if you see some crackhead selling a Jamis road bike. Burgundy/white color, 58cm with a relaxed geometry, so somewhat tall. Upgrades include November wheels (almost no decals) and a black Fizik Aliante saddle.

I don't have the greatest images. Here is a dead-on shot.
The top image results for a 2010 Jamis Xenith Endura 1 are accurate. It is burgundy/white. The main differences are the black saddle, work white cork tape, black rim wheels (with red hubs and skewers) and a rear black Ultegra derailleur.

Sorry to hear that someone stole your bike. It's really unfortunate that bike theft is so common that we can't feel secure that our bike will still be there after going shopping or to work/etc. I'm sure this cuts down on the number of people using their bikes for utility trips. I hope you reported the theft - not sure how much it improves the slim chances for a recovery, but it might at least help raise the priority of bike theft enforcement if more are reported.

I am glad you are physically making a recovery from your crash.
It is sad your bike was stolen but it is a thing.
We can always get more things. You only have one body.
I hope things turn around for you soon, ending this bad run of luck.

Call da police!
No, seriously. It sounds like they actually make an effort to recover stolen bikes in SF. Don’t be a passive victim. Making an effort to find your bike feels better than feeling completely helpless.
Here's how to get your stolen bike back in S.F. - SFGate
I know the pain of having your two-wheeled treasure stolen. For me, bike theft is a crime resulting in loss far in excess of the monetary value of the thing. It’s personal.
And yeah, crashing sucks. I took a good road spill a year ago and it took a while to heal. Could have bought a very nice set of used wheels for what I spent on first aid supplies.
Hang in there and take care of yourself!

So you took it inside the store. Leaned it up against a wall or check stand and didn't lock it? That will be the last time you do that I bet. Sorry for lost man.
Make a police report and contact REIs lost preventions dept. everyone has video cameras nowadays. you never know...
So how's that new backpack working out for you anyway?
