Homemade shoe covers using old wool socks and Tyvek tape. Made these for yesterday's cold ride through Napa. They worked great.

This morning was 30f when I rolled out. I wore from head to toe:
skullcap and helmet
polypro baselayer, long sleeve jersey, wind vest
midweight xc ski gloves
bibs and running tights
thin socks, shoes, toe covers
Notes: pretty comfortable except for my feet. I should've worn wool socks and full shoe covers.

nice to see others that are not willing to submit to peer pressure as regards fashion. i would have been satisfied with just a safeway plastic grocery bag, but i have to admit the tyvex is probably more effective and the logo is nice too.

Haha...you guys are much more supportive than my wife who took a look at my shoe covers and said "It bothers me that this doesn't bother you." Function over fashion in this case! At the Soda Canyon Store, a couple of guys thought Tyvek was a great choice since it's about as weatherproof as they come!

Toe thingies. Wool socks if cold. Arm warmers, knee warmers (mandatory), and sometimes a hat if I think my head needs it. Wind vest (new for me, how did I live without it?). I do the layer thing because conditions can be variable and I easily overheat.
That being said, if I *know* it's not gonna get warmer, and I'm trying to stay light, I have a Craft windstopper long-sleeve base layer that I can wear under a jersey and be fine with. It's pretty amazing.
