Bike fitting in Seattle? Any recommendations?

.

Sometime soon I need to shell out the dough and get a proper fitting. Anyone have any recommendations for a Seattle area shop/person to do this? Bonus points if it is to the south of the Ship Canal.

I'll eventually have to have at least four bikes fitted, any info on deals for subsequent fittings would be most welcome as well.

Muchas dankes!

Somebody recommended ... I forget their name but could get it for you, it's just off Nickerson immediately south of the Ship Canal Trail, by the Tully's. Usually when this comes up the standard advice is Eric Moen at Corpore Sano, but they're up north.

Interesting, I'm not aware of a bike shop there. Is it this place?
Herriott Sports Performance

There's also this place, but it's just north of the canal, although their little blurb on google says "high end bike shop with custon fittings"...

I just got a custom bike from R+E (!!!) last week. Their "NEXT-fit" system starts with inputting your measurements to a computer, setting up an adjustable stationary bike with the resulting recommendations, and then making tweaks as necessary. Smiley did an excellent job getting mine just right both at the initial session and when I came in to pick up the new bike. They're located at the north end of University Way before it intersects Ravenna.

Seems like most places do the laser thing.

They were awesome when they did the final set-up of my custom tandem two years ago. It was good that everything ended up just right, since we got on the next morning and rode 450 miles home on it.

A fun, slightly off topic story: 1995 I decided I wanted to try a ridiculously long stem on my commuter to offset the very both high and laid back headtube. So, being an engineer with AutoCAD, I drew up a stem ~7" long and took the drawing to R & E. Matt Houk who had just established residency as their framebuilder was summoned. I showed him the drawing. And we stood and looked at each other. I was 6'"+ and all arms and legs. He was 5'6" maybe. I'm thinking "is this little guy going to get it?" Then the breakthrough. Matt said something to the effect that I was as far off the spectrum as he was, just in the opposite direction, And from that moment, we clicked. He built exactly what I drew up. And my first long ride on it was a revelation. No back pain! Life changing. And every bike I have had since has benefited.

So, while I haven't been in that shop for decades, I have good memories and am glad to hear they are doing good work.

Ben

Oh, that is tempting, Rodriquez has a good reputation. Do you know if they do fittings for folks who aren't buying a custom bike from them?

I've had Smiley do fittings both on Rodriguez bikes and non-rodriguez bikes and I'm really happy with his work. I'd advise you to make an appointment and if possible to do it mid-day on a weekday. They get really busy and my sense is that it is hard for them to focus on the fitting in progress when there are a lot of people in and out asking questions.

That's a good time for me anyway, I work weekends and am off mid-week. Thanks for the advice!

YOu may be able to get it covered by health insurance if you have pain. I'd check with your insurance and you can google the local PT shops for what they offer.
