Commuting from Hillsboro to Tigard....
Hello,
Well, Google recommends I take the Fanno Creek trial from Beaverton into Tigard, but my commute will be in the dark hours (morning and evening) to and from work so I'm looking for a more realistic route that takes thoroughfares that are (hopefully) less traveled or at least safer than following a dark, often flooded recreational trail.
Any recommendations?

Hi. I live in Beaverton near the Fanno Creek Trail & can attest that it is a haven for bike commuters. Where (major interepsection) exactly are you riding from- to? I can help.
Here is a link from the city of Beaverton with excellent bike maps you can download:
Beaverton, OR - Official Website - Commuter Maps
Also, what is your comfort level? Are you comfortable, for example, riding on busy streets that have dedicated bike lanes?

Ride Fanno Creek with good lights and fenders. With decent lights it is perfectly safe. You may lose a few rides over the winter to flooding, but probably not many. (I live in Garden Home and ride the Fanno Creek trail frequently.)
I've been scanning my brain for a main thoroughfare without a lot of traffic. Murray? That's a lot of traffic. So is Hall. So is Scholl's Ferry. There are routes I do to get in and out of town, but I do them when it is light, not as commuter routes and avoid them anytime light is marginal. Some of my favorite roads are Rood Bridge from River to Farmington, east on Farmington for about a mile and a half, the right onto Tile Flat Road. Follow that 4 miles to Scholls Ferry, take Scholls Ferry to Tigard. Tile Flat is a wonderful day time road but has no shoulder or lights. Same with Rood Bridge.
I hope others can give you some good steers.

I'm waiting for the original poster to return with a general starting/ending point. I'm happy to work out some routes. I ride from home to Hillsboro often.

I live by Nike and take Jenkins (which would be Baseline in Hillsboro) to Allen, Allen to Hall and then Hall into Tigard. Depending on where the OP is in Hillsboro, TV Highway is an option to make the connection too. I get lost in Fanno Creek too easily.
