2016 STP Discussion From outside Northwest

I will be riding this July coming from Vegas. My brother will be coming from Nagareyama, Japan to ride with me, and we are discussing if he will bring his bicycle. I left my bicycle case in Japan when I took a 58 cm Italian bicycle to ride there. He rides a small 48/50 cm hybrid, I grew up on McDonald, he consumed rice in his youth. Tis not expensive to bring his bicycle in the case as extra luggage, but the hassle of traveling with the bicycle case, makes a 4 day rental attractive.

Any ideas of bicycle rental charges @ STP time for a modern road bicycle?

We will be based in Beaverton or McMinnville, OR depending upon what part of the family we will enjoy at that time of the year. Arriving early & testing the bicycle to acquire a decent fit, before we travel to Seattle on Friday, and would like to return bicycle Monday in Beaverton or McMinnville.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

I found a lightly used, quite dusty 52 cm Trek Hilo. I will need to service this bicycle, change the handlebars, Brifters, and old tires. He will now have a have a bicycle for him any time is decides to come to America and ride. Garage Sales are amazing places to find a bicycle hanging in the rafters. It was not part of their garage sale until I asked. They purchased for their daughter when she was riding competitively and she only used it part of one season.

STP in July we are now almost ready...[h=1][/h]

Thanks, I was beyond lucky finding the Trek.

STP is a great ride, this will be my forth time. July here in Las Vegas, it is a bit warm to ride @ Mid day. Also July in Nagareyama, Japan the humidly is not kind to the long distant cyclist.

As someone who lives here in the PacNW, I can tell you I'm glad I do STP every few years rather than consecutively. It breaks the monotony but also reminds me of both good & bad, mainly good times and good folks and yes the weather too. Besides the garage sales, check out the local craigslist too. I've seen numerous bikes which can be had for a few hundred dollars if not less and might be worthy enough to store local and/or with family/friends so that you can do the ride or some other next time!
