Whul Hi everyone
I'm in Portland now (a few blocks west of downtown), but only since summer of 2006. Born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI. I'm still a newbie on a bike, but I'm completely head-over-heels in love with the mechanics/history of these beautiful machines. I hope to go car-free sometime this year, which would put my main mode of transportation on a purple '68 Schwinn Varsity which some might call a "rattling death-trap". But it's still my baby. Goes by the name of Rooster, fyi. Anyway, just wanted to say "hey".

Hi hobo #3, we love these things, and I know that you already have found out that Portland is a great cycling city .

Come visit us in the C & V forum, and bring some photos of the Varsity!

Hallo All

New to the Bikeforums but been cycling all my life including commuting on and off for +20 years and a frequent poster over at the Cascade board for the last few years.

Located in Seattle and ride all around. Current bikes are a Bridgestone MB-3 set up as my commuter and a sweet sweet custom Ti roadbike made for me by a friend in Aspen at High Ti Cycles.

In the market to replace my 84 Fuji America touring bike with a similar lugged steel tourer - sold my Fuji after riding it for 21 years in a moment of witless stupidity...

You've got some nice bikes there! I know you must keep an eye on the CL local listings, but come and visit us in C & V--we have a thread there for eBay and CL finds, and it's possible that you may see a listing that you like and be able to contact a C & Ver about handling it locally... .

Hi folks!

New here, been riding pretty consistently since 2006 when I got my beloved Dahon Speed 8. I only learned to ride at the ripe old age of 26 (I'm 37 now) and I think that makes me a pretty cautious rider.

I'm in Vancouver, which is pretty bike-friendly as cities go, but my commute takes me into Burnaby. The bike "route" (painted lane on a busy highway) just stops dead when you get to the boundary with Vancouver! Theres a sort-of trail with lots of loose rock following the train tracks but it's a bit much for my skills (and little 20" wheels). Like everyone else who commutes I've figured out some compromises to stay safe.

I know a bunch of biking badasses but don't count myself among the elite, just a guy who doesn't want a car. Nice to see the regional outfit here, I hope everyone is having a good start to the week.

Hi JB! There's a Western Canada forum, but it doesn't get as much action as this one, and we're happy to have you here--we think of Vancouver as part of the PNW .

Welcome to BF!

NE PDX off alberta. just joined five minutes ago. i am looking for folks who are planning to do the STP in one day this year. i did it in 2 last year and want to up the ante. i have fallen out of shape a bit due to two broken rims (thanks to macadam ave), but should be getting some more soon. i would think that i can avg 17-18 mph by myself though that may be a little optimistic for the entire 200 miles. i rode with some groups along the way and was doing about 22-25 when along with them. i think i am a decent rider and would like to do the whole thing with a group for consistency. let me know if any are interested

Hi pdxfix, there will probably be a thread or two going the closer we get to the STP, so keep an eye out for that.

In the meantime, Welcome to BF!

I live in Ocean Shores, WA, right on the coast and directly west from Olympia.
I used to live in Veneta, OR, just outside of Eugene (a little west), and we still have the house down there, so I get to do some riding around in that area every once in a while.

Klaatu Barada Nikto all. Recent arrival from Chicago, now on Bainbridge Island. Chilly Hilly tomorrow!
Been biking for 40+ years but happy to have real hills now, believe it. Of course, the wind in Chicago could make you go 27+mph downwind and struggle for 6mph back home. gets old after 40 or so miles....

Lets stay in touch. I have never done it, though I ride a lot. Am interested this year and would rather get the pain all in one dose I'm in SE on the east side of Tabor.

Lakewood, Wa here. I try to ride at least 25 to 30 miles on Saturday when it's not raining and around 10 miles one other day durring the week. The group I was riding with has sort of fallen apart, looking for others in the area to ride with.

Coos Bay Oregon here. I just signed up for this forum and am actually not even technically a rider yet. I'm looking at a few different mountain bikes this week and will hopefully have something by next weekend. I'm looking forward to participating and learning as much as I can from this board.

Western Washington University student (Bellingham) too busy with a physics major to be biking in the cold.

I'm used to biking up Mt. Constitution on Orcas Island, where I hail from, but my 7 year-old Hardrock Sport has seen better days. I need to find me a good road bike to train for STP, too...

Lake Tapps area. Not a hard core rider but I do enjoy getting out to ride. Mtn. biker in my roots but my sig other doesn't share the passion. That said, She does enjoy riding the tandem. so if you see us cruising by on our early 90's vintage Rodriguez, wave and say hi. We just signed up for STV so you should see a lot of us in the backroads of Sumner, Buckley, Enumclaw, Wilkeson and Carbanado these next several months trying to get in better cycling shape.

If you see a man on some truly fine looking vintage Schwinns, wave at stringbreaker! He lives in Sumner.

I'm from Tacoma, WA. I'm a bike mechanic, and have been wrenching for 3 year now. I spent the first ***** of that working in a shop in Kent. I usually ride my bmx, but the bails are starting to kill my fragile knees. I'm hoping to pick up a road bike here soon to start commuting to work and do some rides.

Just posted over in the intros page. I live in Seattle, try to commute as often as I can. Prefer vintage steel, but love anything with two wheels!

Welcome Dartanyon

Notice you live on Alki my brother lives down there and we ride frequently. If you ever want to join us for a ride PM me. we try to do 50-70 miles and are not really fast (14-17MPH). Sometimes he drives up to my area and we ride out in the foothills of the North Cascades.

Hello north westerners
I'm living in Spokane. Looking for anyone interested in trials. Started trying to learn last summer. Ready to purchase my first trials bike real soon. Anyone around town into trials? I desperately need to find some people who could show me a few things. Thanks

Hello to all! Yeesh, lotta people from west of the cascades.
I'm right at the base of them.

reporting in from Ellensburg, WA. Currently attending CWU and frantically saving money for a spec. allez. to get around town. If it ain't hills, it's bloody 20mph winds.

also, to all the oahu posters, I still consider mililani my hometown, even though I was only there for a few years.
