Hello to all! Yeesh, lotta people from west of the cascades.
I'm right at the base of them.
reporting in from Ellensburg, WA. Currently attending CWU and frantically saving money for a spec. allez. to get around town. If it ain't hills, it's bloody 20mph winds.
also, to all the oahu posters, I still consider mililani my hometown, even though I was only there for a few years.

Greetings to all! I live on a farm about 5 miles from Mt. Angel, Or. It's about 35 miles south of Portland. Home of the best Oktoberfest west of the Mississippi. I enjoy solo rides, group rides and lots of coffee!

Yes, it is small; I believe about 2,800. Very quaint and it has a monestary at the top of the hill. Beautiful views of the valley and a nice climb to get you warmed up. I'm so jazzed that the weather is finally changing and I can get some miles in.
I ride a Specialized Tarmac. Gotta love that carbon fiber. I'm looking forward to trying it out on the STP and other longer rides. It likes the hills better than I do!

Howdy all!
Tacoma Washington here, just getting back to biking aftermore than 10 years absence from the saddle. The last time I went on a long MTB ride was at Victor Falls up in East Pierce County, I hear it's all houses now

Another one "back in the saddle" after a protracted absence. I'm in Eugene. First rides have been along the river and Amazon Creek. Commuting and errands are on the list. AND I just picked up a 2 year old Surly Cross Check. That brings me back up to 3 bikes. Think I'll try it on the shorter GEARS ride this Sunday. I'll be the guy off the back.

Amy in Seattle; I'm total newbie. Of course I rode a bike as a kid but as a 30-something adult in the city, this is all very new to me! I joined Cascade recently and will be looking forward to joining some beginner/leisurely rides soon.

Howdy all,
Aquajag, from Kent, Washington here. Also new to the biking thing (other than as a kid, ofc). Been riding your standard Schwinn Ranger to and from work for a month now and loving it. Enjoying it so much now I'm looking at hitting the local trails and eventually an upgrade over my current bike.

Nice to see a bunch of people new to biking. It's the year of the bike. I started riding Summer 2005 so I consider myself a newbie.
I didn’t like cycling. Cycling for me was a boring, uncomfortable ramble through the neighborhood. I didn’t understand people torturing themselves for 50 miles. Then I saw coworkers dismounting their bikes in the pouring rain and I had to have it. It was the first realization that work was a destination I could cycle to every day. Having a destination was the key. Now my bike is the default vehicle for every destination. You’d think an environmentally concerned 35 year old could have figured it out much sooner, but I was of the misinformed masses that didn’t consider the multi-beneficial solution that is the bicycle. Do they still advertise trucks built ‘Like a rock’? Does anybody still listen to it?
It took a year, but I finally got everything out of the way that "required" driving every day. The first 1 ½ years I rode a beater hybrid/mtb and put money into all-weather gear for commuting. 2006 my fourteen mile round trip commute became twenty. Spring 2007 I bought a Trek Portland. This year I am gearing up for longer rides and attempting to incorporate Amtrak into some plans for longer distance cycling. STP, Reach the Beach, Tour de Blast are on the list with the hope of riding in a day before each to camp the night before. Biking just keeps getting better.
My commute starts at 169th and Halsey in Gresham and ends at the East Bank of the Willamette River, so not quite downtown Portland.

I'm from East Seattle, but am stuck in Ohio until summer...
Haven't ridden much since getting my cycling merit badge back in high school (3 years ago or so), but can't wait to get out on some XC/singletrack trails!

Checking in! I'm down in Oly/Lacey area. I've biked on and off for years, but haven't done much the last 4 or 5 years. I've been sticking to hiking and backpacking the last few years. Just got a new Surly LHT and plan to do a lot more riding, errands, and commuting on it. I'm slow, weak, and fat. But I'm biking!
I'll be doing the Danskin Triathlon in Seattle in August. Maybe when I get a little faster and stronger, I'll join the Capital Bike Club, but I don't think I can hang with their slow spokes group yet. I can do 12 mph but not 15 mph for 2 hours. That's the slowest group ride they have. Yikes!
I've been lurking the boards the past few weeks, but I thought it was time to introduce myself.

Hi sparky, there's actually a fair number of members down in your end of Puget Sound...FlowerBlossom, raverson, Hardy Weinburg are just three off the top of my head.
Good on you for doing the Danskin Triathlon!

Hello PNW! Scott from Bremerton.
Commuted in '89 and '90 because my car was stolen in San Diego. Haven't biked much since. Like all the other posted reasons, I've decided it was time to get back into the sport and perhaps move beyond commuting. My 22 year old Bianchi Hybrid does the job, point A to B, but not too efficiently! I've begun my education process for purchasing a road bike in the next month. I'm also eyeing next year's STP (and perhaps a few other events next spring).
If any of you Kitsap County members have an "in" at one of the LBS's in the area....please share. My first LBS experience, the one in Silverdale...not too great.
