^^ Takara Challenge and Lotus Classique are not all that common (I've seen a lot of old bikes; never heard of either of those), so I was curious. Google Image found one really large example of each, both on the same blog, as it turns out.

You just can't hide from the teh googles, I guess.

BTW, if you've always wanted a Univega, there's one close to me in your size. Let me know if you like me to check it out for you. It's been on the local CL for about 3 months, so he's probably ready for an offer. http://olympic.craigslist.org/bik/4292011898.html

Hi there from Olympia, WA - I'm new to cycling (other than riding around as a kid) and this seems to be a great resource. Still looking for a great bike to get started on.

There are a few that I can think of. If you know what you're going to use your bike for (i.e. commuting, mountain biking, recreational, racing, etc), we have separate forums for those. If you're not sure, "General Bike Discussion" would be the place I'd post my first questions.

Welcome to the Bike Forums! Do you have a good route between Bellingham and Vancouver/Richmond?

Thank you daihard. I'm just getting back into bicycles after 40 years on motorcycles, and I haven't done any distance riding since 1974, so I don't have bicycle experience (as in a favorite route) but can lay out a good route based upon your main criteria (scenery, best rate, least traffic, etc.)if that's what you're looking for. Sorry if I'm being dense.

No problem at all! I was just wondering if you knew. The furthest north I've ridden up to is Lynnwood/Bothell, and I want to extend my mini tour all the way up to Bellingham sometime this summer.

Thanks RamAlaRag. Although I am just getting back into the bicycling, I have been up here for a bit over ten years and one of the greatest pluses for me is, in fact, the amazing bicycle community. Maybe communities would be more accurate, as there are so many people active in so many different genres of biking. The city has grown immensely in the last ten years, so the population outgrew the infrastructure and traffic can get burdensome (though miniscule by big city standards), but an extensive and ever-growing system of inter-urban trails and long term riding routes makes travel through and around Bellingham very bicycle friendly. I have yet to do any mass transit/bicycle travel here, but look forward to it as the train service from here south through WA and OR is apparently quite enjoyable. I'm not a joiner nor a social person, so I cannot comment on the fraternity of bicyclists here, but my perception is that it is very well developed and dynamic.

Two really fun routes are, west of I-5 via Whidbey Island, Coupeville, Bow, Chuckanut, and the other being East of I-5 up Highway 9. Both always enjoyable on motorcycle, should be good on bicycles unless the shoulder situation is horrible, ad honestly I have only started paying attention, now that I'm non-motorized. If you decide to do it let me know and I can dig up any route specific info that might help. Cheers.

I'm in Canadia. Due North of Bellingham. 40km from Merica. Do I get banned for being in the "southwest" and posting in a NW thread???

Thanks for the response! When I was up there last, it felt like there was a biking presence. I would be moving up there to attend Western as a transfer student.

Howdy Farhat! I'm in Springfield. You should look up "I Love Bikes" on facebook. And Bike Journal dot Com, which is a free website for like minded individuals who love to ride, log and repeat.

Is there a link to the Bridge Pedal?

Calling Everett home for the moment, but can be found in the Snoqualmie Valley, Skagit Valley and sometimes around Whatcom county depending on where I can find folks to share a ride with. Its been a beautiful late spring/early summer for riding around the PNW.

Recently transplanted to Gig Harbor, WA, across the Narrows from Tacoma. The road bike still gets some use out here but I'm learning that this is too much of a mountain biking paradise not to hit the dirt.
