Sign up for the Pipeline with the Chinook Cycling Club. They'll be doing a Fall Mountain Bike Series. They also host a spring/summer TT series. If I remember correctly, they also had a short road race series earlier this year. Their website is dated.

Have you rode with the group?

Monday, Wednesday, Friday group rides start from the Tri-City Court Club at 5:45pm. These rides are starting to wind down due limited available day light.

Weekend rides are typically:
Saturday: 8:30am. Road Ride from Espresso World in Richland.
Sunday: 8:00am. Road Ride from Bookwalter Winery on Columbia Park Trail.

Be sure to sign up for their email Pipeline (see website) as times and start locations are subject to change.

The group rides are a good starting point for racing. A number of club members race and they'll be able to point you in the right direction. Group rides can offer some good competition.

To my knowledge, there isn't a great number of road races in this area, but I don't road race. Heppner, OR has a stage race in early summer. La Grande, OR has a few road races each year. You might also check with a Spokane, WA club.

Good luck!

This thread has a short discussion of the Elkhorn Classic which starts in Baker City.

I wasn't able to turn up any quick links to the La Grande races. With a little work, you might make a La Grande contact and find more info from this web site.

Have you asked any of the local guys about races? I'm sure Painter is a good resource and would be more than happy to help out. He's been racing a long time.

You sound like a guy that joined our small group for the beginning of the Inland Empire Century. We were the three old(er) guys riding a Serotta, Merlin, and Litespeed. If you're the person I'm thinking of, from what I saw, you have good bike handling skills. A summer riding with the group should have you ready to race.

I don't know of any races in Walla Walla, but don't take my lack of knowledge as gospel.

I found a race in Prosser. Spend a little time looking around this site. You might come up with more.

Regards!

I just remebered hearing of a Walla Walla race aptly name Tour of Walla Walla. Scroll below the cyclocross race description.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get more help. Try again! The right guy will be excited to help. There's a rider/racer who rides a white Raleigh (carbon/aluminium). Try him. Is his name Matt? I spoke with him on a ride earlier this year. He was outgoing and friendly with the right priorities. That is, ride hard, race hard and have fun (none of the elitist attitude you might have experienced).
