Want to join a race team?

Native Planet Outdoor Club is seeking people interested in racing. Yes the racing season has just ended, but that just means that the time to start training for next year has arrived.

Native Planet Outdoor Club was founded in March of 2006 to raise awareness and needed funds for Native Planet, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection, preservation and promotion of indigenous cultures worldwide. On June 11th we held our first fundraiser, the Native Planet Classic, and experienced a great success. The Native Planet Classic is a ride with three optional routes that starts in Winthrop and goes over the North Cascades Hwy to Diablo Lake and back to Winthrop for people who want the challenge of climbing 10,000 ft of elevation over a 126 mile super century. The shorter routes include a 63 mile metric century from Winthrop to the summit of scenic Washington Pass and back to Winthrop, or a very moderate 28 mile ride from Winthrop to Mazama and back to Winthrop. The next Native Planet Classic will be held on June 23rd, 2007 and we would love to see you there.

As for racing, we are seeking riders of all levels interested in road, track, mountain or cyclocross racing. Currently we have 9 people dedicated to track racing at the velodrome in Marymoor Park next year. We have 2 people dedicated to road racing and need more. There has been discussion of cyclocross and mountain bike racing and we would love to add these elements to our racing program. We have two “meet the team” rides this coming weekend and two more in October, where you can come and meet some of our team riders and explore the opportunities (http://www.ride4areason.org/cycling/...he_team.shtml).

Come on out and ride with us and discover the exhilaration of racing with a team.

If you can’t make it to our meet the team ride but are still interested in joining our team please feel free to email me with any questions or just to express your interest.

    possibilities

How can I facilitate putting together a team in your area?

Is there room for another cycling club in your area? If there is, maybe we can start a local branch of the Native Planet Outdoor Club with both recreational and competitive aspects to it.

If there is room for it, I would love to open a new branch of our club in your location.

    racing in the tri-cities

    Hey there tstartrekdude,

I saw your reply to my post about racing. Not that I want to steer you away from our race team but have you looked into the chinook cycling club http://www.chinookcycling.net/

It seems to me like they've got something going on in both mtb and road racing. If I'm wrong or you just don't like the feel of their club let me know. I would love to start a new chapter of our club in the Tri-Cities, I was born in Richland and still have family there.

Sorry, kind of sticking my nose in the middle.

I live in the Tri-Cities, too. To my knowledge, the Chinooks aren't organized a racing team, but rather as a cycling club. Back in the day, I think the Finley Flyers raced as a team, but, from what I gather, they disbanded.

I think it would take significant effort to organize a team in this area. We have a good number of riders and racers, but combining the varied interests and schedules to form a race team is a stretch.

That said, if you proceed, let me know. I might be able to dig up a body or two.

I'm from Idaho Falls and I'm new to the road world. I think there is one club in town but I heard they are road snobs. I haven't road with them much but I'm open to options.

    racing in Idaho Falls

    Hi,

Tell me about bicycling in Idaho falls if you can, please? How many people ride on the road vs. mountain biking?

Native Planet Outdoor Club is a new club formed in Seattle just this past March, which is not focused solely on cycling. We are instead focuse on hosting cycling, hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing events and any other sporting events that make sense, to raise money and awareness for Native Planet an NGO. The focus of Native Planet the NGO (www.nativeplanet.org) is to protect, preserve and promote indigenous cultures around the world.

We're looking to expand the club to as many different cities as possible but have to take it slow right now because we're still working out some of the basic issues of running a club like ours. Insurance is a major issue considering how many different types of activities we want to host and with racing as a part of it all. Currently we have just over 50 members in our club based here in Seattle. We've done some restructuring of the club and are just beginning to put together the Seattle based racing teams.

Is it possible that a club like ours would find eager members in Idaho Falls? What kinds of events might be wanted by people who would join there? Do you know of people who would want to be involved at the organizational level, i.e. President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer?

Feel free to write to me at dave@ride4areason.org
