I just picked up my packet today! I signed up for 50 miles but I don't think my friend is in that good of shape so he will probably want to do 25. I think I can convince him to push it further though. I just need to make sure he can get up the hill in Hawaii Kai and the one by Makapu'u. I just started biking one month ago so I don't know what to expect.

I was out riding my fixed for about three hours today, jumping in with one group of Japanese riders to another, to another, and another etc. Each group consisting of 2 to 40 riders, with the more serious riders usually in pairs. All told I must have seen several hundred riders over the course of the afternoon. While riding we would often see other groups going here and there, most everyone was happy, smiling and waving, and I ended up at W&M Burger for a snack with one of the bigger groups.
What a wonderful and almost fantastical anomaly it was sharing the road with hundreds of friendly riders, half of which were female. Oh well, back to the usual come Monday.

I'm gonna be there on my Kona Jake the Snake. Wrote "Japanese language okay" on my number tag in case any of those adorable bike girls want to strike up a conversation. :-)
It's my first century, but I worked as a messenger all summer so I imagine I'll do okay.

Got to the start late, so I avoided the mad rush up Diamond Head by going up Monsarratt Ave. Otherwise, since my girlfriend was with me, we rode more for fun and for the scenery. Averaged about 10mph, took us about 5 hours to do 50mi, but had a a great time nonetheless.
