Figured it would be cool to have a thread where people posted favorite rides in all their google pedometer glory.

Going with the portland area only on this one for easier browsing later on, but if the mods feel it should be opened up to the whole PNW, i can't stop that. I can only shake my head and sigh heavily.

Distance: ~34 Miles

Starting Point: Pete's Coffee at NE 15th and NE Broadway. The Lloyd center would probably be a place to park if needed.

1) West on NE Broadway
2) Right on N Williams
3) Make a left on N Killingsworth
4) Then a quick right onto N Vancouver Ave
5) Bear/cut right onto NE Vancouver Way
6) Right on NE 6th
7) Right on NE Marine Drive
8) You could just stay on Marine Drive, which is what the pedometer shows because it doesn't have bike/multiuse paths but right before 33rd street you can make a right and then a left under the small bridge and onto the path. This path will cross Marine Drive several times and at one point you'll be on Marine drive for maybe 1/2 a mile before the path starts up again on the right. About 2 or 3 miles before blue lake the path will end and you'll stay on Marine drive.
9) Make a right on NE Blue Lake Drive and head down to the park. Pass by all the cars that have to pay to get in, and go have you some cliff bar. You've earned it, big guy.

The path goes right along the Columbia river for a good portion of the time. Very pretty, especially on clear days with hood right in front of you on the way out there.

Distance: 36 Miles

Starting Point: We'll go with Peete's again.

1) West on NE Broadway
2) Across the Broadway Bridge
3) Veer right onto NW Lovejoy
4) Right on NW 23rd Ave
5) Left on NW Vaughn St.
6) Left on NW Nicolai St., which becomes NW St. Helen's Rd.
7) At the light after mile 5 you go left onto St. Helen's/HWY 30 - HWY 30 has a bike lane the entire time, but you will still have to contend with passing semi's.
8) Pass the St. Johns Bridge (so if you're in NoPo you can just head across this way)
9) Right across the Sauvie Island Bridge
-------- At this point you can go around the loop either direction. I tend to go left...
10) Left on NW Sauvie Island Rd.
11) Right on NW Reeder Rd.
12) Just past mile 15 you will come to an intersection and need to go right to stay on Reeder Rd.
13) Just past mile 18 you will need to stay right to veer onto NW Gillihan Rd. (just stick with the idea of the loop)
14) Gillihan will take you back to where you started the loop and you go back the rest of the way as you came out.

Savie Island doesn't have bike lanes but all of the drivers seem very aware and conscientious of riders. I see a lot of us out there. In the summer it's a great place to pick berries... and, ummmm, i dunno, frolick in the sun or something.

Been to many years to remember all the street names but I used to commute from NE 70th between Glisan & Burnside to Western Seminary at 55th & Hawthorne where I attended & ran their print shop. Just work your way South a mile or so from Glisan & up through the Mt. Tabor neighborhood. Lots of climbing but I could do it on a Raleigh Sports 3 spd so no one should have to much trouble. Check out the "crater" fumarole. Nice neighborhoods & there is a view point looking North where many years ago I sat & watched Mt St Helens lose its top 1/3. Watch out for Possums around dusk, I had a few close calls on descents as they mosey right out in front of you. A few years later I commuted to Downtown but that isn't as interesting a ride. Don
