Crown Zellerbach Trail- Columbia Co. OR

As some of you know, a trail from Chapman Landing, on Multnomah Channel, to Vernonia, OR is in the first stages of becoming a reality. This multi-use trail will follow the old Crown Zellerbach logging road and will eventually link up with the existing Vernonia-Banks Trail State Park. Two public meetings have been held and there is a public comment period from March 12, 2007 to April 12, 2007 so now is the time to make your opinions known. After the public review and comment period has ended, a final plan will be completed and presented to the Parks Commission and the Columbia County Board of Commissioner's for adoption.

Here is a PDF of the presentation. Contact info is on page 28.

There is more information on the Columbia County Parks web site:

That is awesome!! Hope they pave it the full distance. I rode the county road between Scappose and Pittsburg once, it was OK, no traffic, but I was chased by a dog

I'll be watching progress on this one, thanks.
Those voices in your head aren't real, but they have some great ideas

Sorry Shifty but the plan, for now at least, is:

    "Surfacing & Width
The CZ Trail is being developed along an old railroad/logging road
corridor that was originally engineered and constructed to support
heavy trains, trucks, equipment, and machinery. The gravel surface
will be retained as the preferred surface for the trail from Highway 30
to Vernonia. An asphalt surface will be retained in the Scappoose
area, from Highway 30 to Chapman Landing. Wherever possible the
trail will be maintained at a minimum width of 12 feet."

The existing gravel surface has been well compacted by years of use by log loads well in excess of the weight limits common on public highways. Nonetheless, it is not "pavement smooth".

The CZ road goes through that dog's back yard instead of the front.
