Seattle just the beginning

60 yr old grandfather, flying to Seattle on Saturday, May 26th arriving aprox 7:30 p.m. with two grandsons (14 & 16) planning on taking ferry over to Vashon that nite and staying in that hostel. and then wanting to take ferry over to Victoria BC next morning to ride up to sydney and then going down to Port Townsend and will be on the way.

But can't seem to figure out that there is a ferry from Vashon to Seattle to get to Seattle in time to get on the 7:30 a.m. Clipper, ANY ADVICE?

Our total trip will be 1600 miles to San Diego and eager for any advice etc.

There's a ferry which departs Vashon 04.50 am on Sundays, heads to the Fauntleroy Dock. That's the earliest departure. It takes approximately 50 minutes travel time on the ferry. You then need to get from West Seattle into downtown Seattle to get to the Clipper terminal. I haven't any idea what the travel time would be for that part of the trip.

If I'm wrong, someone will correct me...but it looks as if it will be a tight connection to make.

I presume that you are cycling and not driving. If so, I'm not so sure you'll want to be riding over the West Seattle bridge (lot's of fast traffic). Your best bet may be to take a Metro bus from the Fauntleroy Terminal to the Seattle Waterfront. Bus service is pretty cycle friendly, they have bike racks on the front for your bike.

Looks like the crossing from Vashon to Fauntleroy (W Seattle) is 20 minutes. So the 4:50 am would put you into West Seattle at about 5:15 after docking and unloading.

Also, there is a Water Taxi the runs between West Seattle and Downtown Seattle, unfortunately the first run on weekends is 9 am. Here's the link for that anyway - you might find some of that info useful.

Good luck on your travels.
