Out of portland this weekend - any tips?
Faithful commuter and transportation biker here, just built up a fast, light bike (1st in 11 yrs, sadly). So I want to take my new rig out for a ride. I do like a little hill, and I'd like to go 30-40 miles. All suggestions are welcome. My new bike, BTW, is a Salsa Las Cruces currently with 23c tires. Happy trails.

Join the Saturday morning ride with Portland Velo club. Leaves from Longbottom's Coffee and Team by the Hillsboro Stadium at 9am. Pick your speed and ride with that group. Take the Max out to the Fairgrounds area and ride out to Longbottoms. Rides are generally about 30-40 miles and vary in intensity. Join the Hammer and Nails group that leaves first and really put in a workout or pick the 19 or 17 mph. Great folks great rides and nobody gets left behind!

Sunday morning you could ride the Harvest Century. It starts and finishes in Champoeg Park near Newberg.

You should ride out to Alpenrose Dairy and check out the cross races....with your new purchase it would be great to expose your bike to the right environment....

Those are all good suggestions. The cross race at alpenrose is definately on my radar screen. I want to see what that is all about - and maybe enter! Still want a road ride, so the Portland Velo ride sounds interesting - we'll see. Thanks for the tips, any others?

There's also a 'SW' Portland Velo ride out of Tualatin on Saturday and a hilly Portland Wheelmen ride out of Oregon City on Sunday.
