Safest route from Puyallup to Tacoma

Want to start commuting every morning but cant really find a very safe route between Puyallup and Tacoma. Drive River Road every morning and cringe when I see sleepy drivers drifting onto the shoulder. I don't want a mirror to the back of the head! Anybody here do this commute? What seems to be the safest route? Would be nice if the riverwalk trail would get extended all the way to T-Town.
Any info would be helpful.-Eric

You might want to look at the STP route - I'm pretty sure it's all online. It would also help if you told us where you are starting in Tacoma and where you are ending.

You might also find the route map for the Tour de Pierce (this past Sunday) helpful. Check out the extra loop for the 50-mile route as it goes from Puyallup to Tacoma.

Tacoma Wheelmen Info

The following is a link to a description of T-Dome to Orting.
https://www.twbc.org/routes/orting.htm#orting

I think you'll be able to follow it to get a good route not having to use River Road.

Another route is via N Levee Rd to Frank Albert Rd to 20th St E to Pacific Ave to get across the Puyallup River. It has been a while since I've ridden this route and the Puyallup River Bridge is the trickiest part. It would be worth driving before riding.

Hope this helps.
