Seattle Tour de Cure 2009

Seattle Tour de Cure 2009
American Diabetes Association
Saturday, May 16th
Marymoor Park

15, 20, 45, 70 or the 100 mile century

Anybody in the area planning on riding? I've had type 1 diabetes since I was 13yrs old but I've never let it get in the way of my physical activities; I'm very excited for this ride.

I'll be riding the century.

I captain my company team, and this year we should have 20+ riders.

Riding for a cure

I did this ride last year. The 45 mile version. Had a fantastic time. Our team leader was one of the top fund raisers and got to have his picture taken with Greg Lamond. Then later on the ride, we came upon Greg and his troupe. We got to ride with and listen to his stories for the better part of 20 miles. A GREAT experience!

Will be doing the ride again this year. I'd like to do a longer ride, but will probably stay with our group. I suspect they will want to stick with a shorter route, but I can always hope...

Hope to see some of you there. Enjoy!

We've got 17 people on Team Bio-Rad, so look for us in the green/orange/white jerseys on all distances except for the 70 miler. (our 70 miler guy got hurt and is out for the season) Most of the team is part of the 15 or the 20, we've got a solid contingent in the 45, and I think there's 2 of us at the century.

I'll be easy to recognize on the century start line: I'm usually the tallest guy there, and I'll probably be the only one with a singlespeed.

good luck to everyone, it's definitely for a great cause. does Greg L still come out for those? he was on one a few years back.

i'll be out in ephrata (hopefully) for the SiR 400k on the 16th, having my own day/night of fun.

Good luck with the 400k! I'll probably ride the fall series 400, and definitely the 200 and 300.

I've signed up for this and it will be my first century. I've done three 70milers very recently so I'm feeling good about the ride. I will probably do about 80-90 miles on Saturday.

I'll be riding a silver Cannondale...you can see me in my sponsor link! Good luck everyone and have a good time & ride.

Hey are there any Pizza joints near the Silver Cloud Hotel? The plan is to stay there friday night? Pizza sounds good the night before the ride, maybe 1 beer lol. Don't know how long after the ride I can hang out, hopfully long enough to meet some folks.
Oh yeah, is there a place near that hotel for breakfast before the ride?
And East! Come hang out at Marymoor if you can and look for us!

It would be a quick jaunt over to my place Friday night if you're interested in pizza. We've got an awesome place right across the street, and I can see about getting the movie room reserved and maybe some cheesy bike flix?
If not, there's a Pagliacci's over by your hotel, and Frankie's Pizza and Pasta isn't much of a drive either. There's actually a whole ton of pizza and pasta places within 5 - 8 miles of there.

Breakfast, you're best off heading over to the park early and going to the Family Pancake House. That joint rocks, but it fills up quick on the weekends so get there early.

I signed up for the 70 mile ride; however, because of a family emergency, I'm not sure I'm ready for that. I was up to riding 40 miles, but I've only done a couple of short rides in the past two weeks. Does anyone know if it's possible to just do the 45 miles instead?

It can be done, but there are a few things you have to do...

1. Skip the start of the 70mi.
2. Be at the start line for the 45.
3. Get on your bike and go!

The folks who run the tour told me once that the routes were pretty much open all day and that you can mix and match or customize your ride as you please.
I think route sign-ups are mostley to get a good idea of how many folks will be on the course at the time and for stocking rest stops.
I had to make a route change at the Lilac Century in Spokane a few weeks ago,I signed up to do the 25, but the nice lady with the mic said,"you don't have to wait! The 50mi is rolling out in just a few minutes!" UGH! My quads are starting to hurt again....

I'll be working that Saturday, probably starting at 4.00 am. Is the finish at Marymoor? Any place in particular (i.e., the Velodrome)? I should be getting off at 2.00 pm, probably take at least an hour to get to Marymoor.

I dont know how long we will be in Redmond after the ride, I know we will want to beat traffic if we can. Then again, I have no Idea how long it will take to do the ride. (for me anyway). I hope we can all get together for a bit!
And as you enter Marymoor, pass the velodrome. You wont be able to miss us, there should be tons of cars!

I just returned from picking up my registration packet from Chipotle in Redmond. I must admit, I'm getting pretty excited about the ride tomorrow.

My bike is tuned and lubed (just like its rider) and the weather is looking outstanding. Hope everyone has a great time!

Good rides to all of you, especailly team green B-r.
Hope the weather is better than I had in Napa - pouring rain for a couple hours and a total of about an inch fell during the 50 miler.

Wow, what a great day of riding. I did the century, so I started at 7am and a wee bit chilly. I'm not sure how many rode the century, maybe 40-45. We split up pretty quickly into some small groups...there was definitely some fast people there.

By the time we hit Granite falls there was very few riders around. I was in a group of 5. After Granite came the climbing, up and down all the way to Monroe and was now on my own. I felt ok and made sure that I rode tempo up the climbs and not cooking myself.

After Monroe I started seeing a few other riders. I was still feeling ok surprisingly and more confident knowing I was getting closer to the end. I hit Union hill and again rode tempo. These climbs towards to end though were butal and really sapped my strength. However on the flat I managed to hold it around 18. It was a sweet feeling coming across the line to cheering applause.

Stats.
100miles
6hrs exactly
4420 elevation
Very happy with the ride...

Anyone else?

100.29 miles
1 gear
0 coasting.

Just about 7h rolling time. Right about 8h total time. Had to walk the 9% grade up Trilogy Rd when my quads locked up. After the final climb on Union Hill Rd, my legs were just along for the ride... totally useless for the last 4 miles.
I hurt, but I'm a man of my word and went through with it. The deal was "get me to $500 in donations and I'll ride the fixie", and my friends came through.

2009 TdC century on a fixed gear. (One of two fixie riders on the century)
