Beautiful day for the first group ride

Many of you know Ellensburg is a small college town with a reputation of very windy spring days. There are also a lot of cyclists in the area. For some reason, though, there never seemed to be any organization to getting people together to meet, and ride, with each other.

Last fall I had had enough of riding alone so started trying to meet more of the local cyclists through the winter spinning class and word of mouth. My goal was to organize group rides in the valley for this year.

Well, today was the first group ride and I was pleasantly surprised to have 7 riders show up for the flat 23 mile loop. We would have had a couple of more but a family illness and an injury prevented them from coming. Mother Nature produced an absolutely beautiful day for a spring ride - little to no wind and 70+ degrees F.

We have rides planned every Sunday through the summer with the exception of holiday weekends and I can't wait to see how many more show up once word begins to spread.

Just had to share.

So...What's the pace like. I'm planning on a visit to Soap Lake to see my Ma and planned on swingin' around your neck of the woods (plains actually). Maybe I could tag along?

Kpug - the pace was comfortable around 15-17 mph for the flats and slight downhill portions. The slight grade uphill when we turned north was between 12-14 depending on the rider. We had riders ranging from mid-30's in age to their 60's on a tandem. My 13 yo son will be joining us in the near future.

You're more than welcome. We leave every Sunday from the Ellensburg High School parking lot on Capitol Ave. And, I've got a Gitane, Trek 610 or a Nishiki you can ride if you don't bring a bike with you.

1:00 pm - 15-25 miles depending on the route (and wind!).
