Bike Fitters in Seattle Area?
 

Does anyone have recommendations for a bike shop in the Seattle area that can provide assistance with a bike fitting. I'm hoping to break into touring this summer but have had problems in the past with cramping in my quads and it was suggested that my riding position might be a contributing factor. I set the bike up (Novarra Randonee) based on the various guidelines but have never had a genuine fitting. Lance Armstrong I'm not but I think a professional fitting would probably be worthwhile. I certainly don't mind paying for the service if I'm dealing with someone who is competent. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most bike shops will fit you but if you have a special need, I would recommend the specialists like Kenny and Herriott as they ride & understand cyclists very well.

Thanks jazzy! I'm just coming off knee surgery but as soon as I can get back in the saddle I'll check them out.

Another that I've seen recommended a lot is Corpore Sano Eric Moen an actual physical therapist and he seems to have quite the resume. Just another option for ya.

Note that as a PT, if you are having pain his services may be covered under insurance (it's covered under mine).

Erik will do bike adjustments and he will also likely do body adjustments - exercise and stretches that you can do.

He helped me out a bunch.

For touring and LD riding, I always recommend Rick Olsen at Sammamish Valley Cycles in Redmond. They're the local rando shop, and Rick does a great job of fitting people who are planning to spend 10+ hours a day on their bike.

Hey - Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the information. It looks like I've got a number of well qualified options. It will be a month or so before I can start riding again which is really killing me given the good weather we're finally having.

It takes accurate measurements of your body's geometry, loads them into a computer, and then produces the optimal measurements for your desired style of riding. It is very efficient, and in our testing we have found that it produces practically the same results as an intensive 2-3 hour fit session. I got a bike fit covered by my insurance as part of physical therapy for back and neck pain from Real Rehab. Izette Swan, who does the fittings, is a bike coach and racer. My doctor at the sports medicine clinic gave me referral.

If you haven't already made a decision, I went to Craig Undem at Cycle U and I've never had problems with my fit. His studio is right by the Cascade Bicycle Club office in Magnuson Park and it cost me around $150.

Rascale - thanks for the tip. I'm currently working with a sports medicine clinic and I'll see if they might be able to refer me under my insurance, otherwise I'll just cover it. It looks like it will be June before I can start riding again and then only on flats for a while - aarrgghhh!

Rupert - thanks for the recommendation. I had no idea there were so many resources in the area to turn to for this. Looks like I should have explored it a long time ago. It will be a while before I can make any decisions who to go with as I'll need to be able to get back on my bike first. However, the information everyone has provided is terrific and greatly appreciated.
