Pioneer Century

Anyone planning to do this century on Saturday? I'm going to ride, it's a nice ride and always a good turnout.

The Strawberry is a ride that I can't do. I have grass pollen allergies and too much of the ride goes through grass seed farms in Linn county, just when the grass is at the peak of pollination. I rode it 3 years ago, during the ride I told myself that I was going to pay for this ride, did I ever! It's a pretty nice ride, well supported.

There was plenty of hay pollin hanging around this weekend too. But at least it rained somewhat to keep it to a min. What a great ride. I did not have a lot of time so I did the 55 with all the hills in it (and the down hills) Sorry I missed seeing you there Shifty

This was my second try at the Pioneer. I signed up for the 100 miles last year, but the big climb just took too much out of me, and so I was completely done after 55. This year, I guess I trained a lot better, because I finished the whole 100 in time to get a couple more of those tasty fajitas at the end.

I expected the 45 mile loop to be easy compared to all the climbing on the 55, but I tell you it seemed like every time the course turned we were turning into the wind. I'm not quite sure how that works. You'd think somewhere in a loop the wind would have to be at your back.

But it was a great ride and the support was fantastic.

YAh the wind was a special added attraction to the ride. I don't even mind the larger hills as long as the wind just goes away. fat chance-

I did both the Pioneer and Strawberry this year. You aren't kidding about the grass pollen. I'm allergic and suffered quite a bit. On the Strawberry, I took Claritin before the ride and a Benadryl when I got back but still sneezed a million times and excreted 3 gallons of snot and tears.
