Portland - bring my own, rent, ??

    Hi all,
I'll be in Portland for about a week, from next Friday. I still can't decide if I want to bring my own bike, which has obvious advantages plus I'd get to use my powertap, or if I want to rent..I'm hoping ya'll can help.

I sent an email to Veloce Bicycles, to see if they have any rental options other than the two Masi's they list on their website. The Masi's look fine, don't get me wrong, I'm just looking for as many options as I can find.

Can anyone recommend any other shops that rent nice road bikes, preferably near downtown? I found some other shops that rent hybrids etc, but that's not what I'm looking for...

    Thanks!

Waterfront Bikes and Fat Tire Farm are two I know do rentals, with obviously different focuses. Waterfront was renting cyclocross bikes last fall, which aren't listed on their site, so they might have other options too.

Last December I rented a Fuji cyclocross bike from Waterfront for a week. On the phone they were happy to accommodate my request for including full-coverage fenders. When I finally showed up the day to pick up my bike, they opened the store a half-hour later than their official opening time, and my bike did not have fenders put on it. Since there was only one person working there, it then took him nearly an hour to put a rear fender on due to all the phone calls and interruptions he had to manage.

By this time I was trying to meet someone for a ride so I took the bike with only the rear fender. The next day I returned in the midst of a downpour to get the front fender put on. Surprise, surprise, the shop was supposed to be open but the sole employee was out running an errand. After 15 minutes in the rain he finally showed up, and took another half-hour to put the front fender on.

Just a suggestion if you chose to rent from Waterfront: call them up a day or two beforehand to confirm they have your bike ready and let them know when you're planning to show up to pick it up.

Thanks everyone. Decided to ship mine afterall. it's costing only $18 more than a weekly rental from Veloce, and I get to ride my own bike.
