Seattle I90 question

I am riding the SIR Populaire on Saturday. I would like to ride to the start from the East side. I know where to pick up the I90 trail but have never ridden it before. Where does it dump out in Seattle?

The directions say:

From North by bike:
Take 1st Ave S until you get to bridge on the Duwamish.
Bear right on side road instead of following traffic over bridge.
Find bike path that follows east side of bridge southbound.
Turn 180 after crossing bridge and follow bike path South
Bike path ends - Turn left on S. Holden St.
Right on 5th Ave S.
Left on S. Kenyon St. - follow it around to 10th.
How do I connect I90 with 1st Ave S?
Thanks
Duncan

This is how I do it:

- Take I90 bike path across I90
- When it ends at the Mt. Baker side, take the sharp left at the end and keep going uphill through the Mt. Baker Tunnel
- You'll end up on a bike path going through the park. Follow that bike path across Martin Luther King and 23rd Avenue
- The path will head downhill; when you get to the bottom of the hill follow it around to the right; it will dump you on to Hiawatha Street. Take Hiawatha two blocks to Dearborn; turn left on Dearborn.
- Follow Dearborn under I5 to Maynard
- Left on Maynard to Airport Way
- Airport Way two blocks to South Connecticut/Royal Broughum Way (just under I90)
- Follow that to 1st Avenue South.

Pretty much what I would - but note that it's easy to end up on Rainier (well, the sidewalk) instead of Hiawatha when you come down the trail's hill past the tennis courts - just be sure to keep right at the bottom like Benge said, I think there's a little fork there.

If you end up on Rainier just ride the sidewalk a few blocks to Dearborn, but Hiawatha is a better bet.

Btw I'll be volunteering on the ride - should be a good one!

It will be my first Rando experience. I am excited and a bit nervous even though the distance is not an issue.

duncan,
I will be on a carbent...my first official bent brevet(did a 200k permanent last weekend) but have done a ton of other brevets all on df's. I imagine the "volunteers" Robert, Chris, Matt, Dr. Codfish (various wives) have designed a route with sufficient hills to make it worth our while. The urban populaire previously was a doozy. But i did those on my df. I guarantee the support will be great. You will love it. The people are always awesome. see you there

Darn it.

The offer I put on a house fell through and I need to resume my search on Sat instead of doing the populaire. I would have loved to see John on his Carbent and MattM. I will email update the SIR site as well. I am sorry to miss you all and wish you fair winds and great views.

Sorry to hear - but there's always the 100k "mountain" populaire later this summer!

Hope to see you on the road soon.
