Seattle Winter Training Series rides start Jan. 8

Boy, it sure is quiet in the Pacific Northwest sub-forum these days. I guess you're all out riding (?).

In any case, time to do this: The Seattle Randonneurs and Cascade co-sponsor a Winter Training Series that kicks off this Saturday, January 9. Rides range from 36 miles to 81 miles, each Saturday until the end of February.

This gets you ready for the Feb. 28, when you can ride either the (a) Chilly Hilly or (b) the SIR's 100k Spring Populaire (unfortunate this year that both of these events are on the same day).

Details of the Winter Training Series (maps, ride starts, cue sheets, etc.) are here:

https://www.seattlerando.org/index.ph...d=40&Itemid=45

Anyone else going? I'm planing to make a few of these, depending on time/travel/weather...

Here's the schedule:

1/9/10. 36 m Redmond, Carnation, Union Hill, Redmond
1/16/10. 54 m Stanwood - Camano Island - Stanwood
1/23/10. 43 m Southcenter, Des Moines, Dash Point
1/30/10. 71 m Snohomish, Marysville, Happy Valley, Arlington
2/6/10. 44 m Hills of Bothell, Kirkland, and Woodinville
2/13/10. 70 m Auburn, Lake Tapps, Orting,Carbonado, Buckley
2/20/10 81 m. Redmond, North Bend, Issaquah

Not sure about any of the other WTS rides, but I'll be there for #1 this Saturday.

Search www.veloroutes.org for SIR WTS and you'll find the map and elevation profile for the ride.

I've been thinking about coming out for a few of these. A 36 miler this saturday might be lovely. I don't know that I want to drive over an hour away for some of those other rides.

Definitely in for WTS 1. Probably at least a few others.

I was there. I ran into Clifton as well which prompted me to actually log into Bikeforums again. I had a great ride and may make some of the other rides in this series though not #2 as I have airport duty that day.

BTW, it was good meeting you Clifton.

It's wrestling season! My son is a senior this year so this is it last year to watch and root him on.
Have to get my rides in when I can.
This Friday and Saturday was spent in Redmond Oregon at the Oregon Classic Wrestling tournament.
We are home now and I plan to ride Sunday.
No doubt about it my time for cycling is greatly curtailed.

Nice ride Saturday on wet roads; today (Sunday) I didn't even need fenders - great weekend for riding, considering it's January.

Anytime any of the other slow folks want to show up so I'm not "leading" the 11-13 mph group by myself, that would be awesome. Looking forward to ride 2!

I did ride #3 today, lots of folks showed up, even though it was raining at the start (and for most of the ride). It was a new route for me -- a couple of noteworthy hills, at least to me.

I might make it out to the "hills of bothell" one, that was a nice hard route last year!

I emailed with the Summits of Bothell ride organizer a few months ago. He said they were planning to bring it back in 2010, possibly with longer route options. I hope they do.
