My in-laws live here, and I'm going to be at this location tomorrow. I'm bringing my bike and want to go for a long ride (50-90 miles). Can anyone help? I found a couple of routes on mapmyride, but am not sure about them

I've ridden my mtn bike at Mary's peak, and it looks like a killer road climb (I'll have my road bike), so if I want to add 20 miles at 3000+ft of elevation, I suppose I could tack that onto whatever.

Mostly, I'm curious if I could ride 34 out to the ocean, or if that's the dumbest idea I've ever come up with.

Can any relative locals help me out?

Here are routes for the Alpine Half Century and Century which have a nice mix of hills and scenery. I did the half century a couple of years ago.

There are lots of options there. The Alpine Century is a great route (and was a good event last year). Kings Valley to the North is another good loop. Hwy 34 to the coast is definitely possible, I've only done the portions used in the Alpine Century route, but have driven to the coast on 34. Very twisty, scenic, not too much traffic, at least when I last drove it, which has been a few years now.

thanks for the suggestions. I've been "offline" for a few days enjoying the weather. I ended up doing something on Alpine road as per suggestions from my father-in-law. It was EXACTLY the alpine 50 mile route recommended by screenwasher. I went back out to 34 and did an extra 10 miles because the day was so beautiful. 3:30 riding time, 63 miles(route here https://www.alpinecommunity.net/pg28.cfm)

Really great weather, and some very pretty country. I'll hopefully be back up there this summer for some more riding.

Glad you enjoyed the Alpine half century and more while in our area. 18 mph avg over hilly 63 miles - wow. As a recreational and touring rider, I could not even dream of that kind of pace.

The numbers probably aren't exact, so I don't know about 18mph, maybe more like 17.

It was a beautiful day with no wind, and I was WELL rested after two days of sleeping in and eating well.

It really is pretty out there. Maybe placebo, but the air just seemed nicer with all the trees and no cars around.
